You must be STOPPED, and then press and hold the VSC OFF switch for a few seconds. The VSC OFF indicator will come on, and you then have open differntial(s).

A quick push of that same button (truck with wavey lines below) is the TRAC OFF MODE which turns on the AUTO LSD... a stronger limited slip than the normal TRAC provides... for getting unstuck (2WD)... works like 'Posi-Traction'. Continue holding that button down and the traction controls go off (TRAC and AUTO LSD)... See the first link in my signature for more data.

It was not an available option until 2004. A 2004 through 2008 truck might have it. It became a standard feature in 2009, so the 2009+ trucks all have it.

    Actually I meant 04.

"Antilock brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution are standard on all Tacomas. Traction control is standard on V6 models (V6 PreRunners also have a limited-slip differential), and stability control is optional."

"Four-wheel antilock brakes are standard on all models. Select Tacomas can have Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Toyota’s electronic stability system."
