Just traded my 2011 2.7 for a 2021 3rd gen with the 3.5. Truck has 20k miles, I know about the ticking due to the high pressure fuel pump from the direct injection but this sounds more like a knock than a tick. I’m also noticing a lot of white smoke out of the exhaust even when the truck is warmed up. I took the video at operating temp with 60degrees outside temp. There is def a lot of condensation out of the exhaust so it might be nothing. I also used one of this block testers that you connect to the radiator and that was all good. Am I just being paranoid or should I take it to a dealer since I have warranty?

EDIT: After a month at the dealer I got a new short block. Multiple "scored" cylinders. Bill came out to $18k but was covered under warranty. I traded the truck in the next day.

Since you still are under warranty, I would take it in. Keep the documentation (even if their opinion is everything is normal) and make sure the print-out lists all of your concerns.

right. I can very distinctly hear the fuel pump but that other “clacking/knocking” is separate.

mine gets noisy at idle at times doing its injection cleaning cycle but nothing like that.
I feel for you brother I was worried about giving up my 2nd gen for a 3rd gen.
So far mine isn’t having any of the 3rd gen issues besides trans hunting.
I’d definitely bring it to dealer and hope for the best!
    Definitely get paperwork!
    Best of luck bud!!!!

yea man I had to get rid of my beloved regular cab due to a growing family so I decided to stay with Tacoma but definitely second guessing my choice.

Is the truck warmed up, I noticed my exhaust is about the same with a cold start.

The noise is more of a concern imo.

hmm very interesting. I can definitely kind of hear the same noise but mine seems a lot louder.

do I tell the dealer about this when I drop it off or let them try to figure it out?

I'd be concerned about the smoke in the first video.

The condensation in the first video is not an issue.
Humidity has a lot to do with the amount of water produced by the exhaust.

I also don’t see or hear anything abnormal.

You can see water dripping out of your exhaust. And all 3.5s are noisy, like sewing machine/diesel. I would say you are overthinking it.

That condensate coming from the tailpipe is normal. You're still dripping water. If it was coolant, it would have a sweet smell and taste.

I'd say this sounds like your 2nd video. I would mention it. even bring along the TSB. They'll put a new one on and if it fixes it, you'll know for sure and your golden if not then.... well..
