yea I don’t know man, I just spent way too much time looking at idling tacoma videos on YouTube lol. I think I can hear the same clacking in your video. What do you think about the vacuum pump TSB the guy above posted?

yea I’m definitely more concerned about the noise. I think the vacuum pump will be a good start. I have the 36k mile warranty until August and then the 6 year 60k powertrain so I should be good for a little while.

It’s definitely a loud engine, especially in “cleaning mode.” This is when the port injectors are firing to help remove carbon from the back of the intake valves. It almost sounds like a diesel engine.

Actually cleaning mode is when DI injectors clean themselves. They’ve got a slit at the side of injector cleaning the carbon off.

Also port injectors clean the intake valves naturally by spraying the fuel on them.

I think you nailed it. Just like reading about issues too much on TW will also make you think your truck will break tomorrow.

You are still under warranty, not a bad idea to go there and see if there is a TSB for your truck.

    Enjoy your truck man!

    Don’t lose sleep over it!
I was all sketched out at first also.
    I absolutely love my 18!
A lot more tech than I was used of but it’s been good!
    I enjoy my ride!

I got a little sketched when I first bought mine but they all sound this noisy.

Smoke looks like condensation which I get a lot of this time a year too.

    So :notsure:

If it really worries you, drain the oil and inspect for either coolant or metal.

These forums will drive a man to drink. The exhaust smoke is normal and doesn't even look excessive. Its just your typical condensation at start up. The noise is probably not much of a concern either and is amplified certainly due to the video, so no telling what it really sounds like standing next to it.

Either way let us know what a dealer tells you if you take it in

I'd mention it on your next service maintenance visit if it bothers you.

This sound you're hearing is "Toyota normal"
It's the lugs of the vacuum pump clanking away as it rides on the passenger side camshaft.

The injector cleaning mode sound is a higher pitch rapid fire "tick" than a "knocking" sound.

Hope that helps. Most of taco owners are deaf anyways and can't help themselves with basic wiring their own shitty raptor lights. Let alone figure out what noise they're hearing.

I can finally blame my heavy beer consumption on TW.

close the hood and do another recording. when you put your phone right next to the motor the engine compartment is creating a amplifying effect. just curious what the sound is with the hood closed just standing next to it.

dropped it off at the dealership this morning and they said everything is normal. I guess I'll relax now? At least I still have warranty and got my concerns in their system.
