I mentioned another member I wheel with down here has a spartan in the front and he's afraid to lock both his hubs at the same time for fear of snapping a CV. Seems like to me, it's a wash. Locked is locked. As far as your point about it being locked constantly, I could probably see fatigue being an issue at places like the Rubicon or where you're driving over high traction rocky surfaces a lot, but down here in FL it's not really an issue if you're not driving on the road. Most trails are loose soil, mud, sand, or at worst red clay, so the tires can easily slip. That said, I run most of the time with the hubs unlocked since the off-road area we meet at most frequently down here I can run 98% in 2WD, or 2LO if necessary (damn those factory 3.90s :frusty:). If I had to run on a high traction surface and didn't need 4WD, I'd probably unlock one hub to make steering easier and prevent binding.

Oh I see. I'm talking more for rock crawling. I imagine your setup is fine for mud and pretty mild trails.
Also, I ran double black diamonds at Windrock and 5 stars at Hot Springs, all rocks, with my front Spartan and 35s. Only broke that 1 cv that was a crappy reman from O'Reilly, and I broke it on a blue trail because I was gassing it at full lock (the joint is partially out of the cup at full lock, making it weaker)

Pretty much all we have down here is mild. Did this in 2LO...

Start taking trips with Frank and Todd! I'd definitely swap in that open diff before getting on any rocks though. You won't be able to steer and your CVs will insta-die with that lincoln

I'd love to, but I lack confidence in being able to make it home, haha. (Plus I'm too poor to pay attention, much less take a trip like that, and I'd need belly armor, which is my next upgrade and lower gears [4.88s].) Like I said though, the solution to the binding issue is to only lock one hub until you really need all 4 to pull. 3WD isn't as good as 3.5WD, but I think it would handle the trips between the big obstacles.

I hope I can some day too. I guess once I take the OGT as far as I can reasonably take her with my budget constraints, I can maybe save up enough to make the trip. I currently have 3 spare CVs and a lot of experience changing them so I'd at least make it past 3 obstacles, lol.

Hope you continue to have good luck with yours.

Rear ended someone today. Traffic stopped quick and I skidded into them. All I did was crack my grille (and the headlight clip, actual headlight is fine), broke a sidemarker, and got a crack in my windshield from impact. Frame looks OK, have to bend my fairlead back. I drove away just fine thankfully.

Yep for sure. Ah well, it's just money. I can live with that, just relieved no one got hurt at all from that. Girlfriend was in the passenger seat with her dog and car in front of me had a kid, but wasn't a hard impact so no one got a scratch, thank God

If the frames bent up front, just cut it off at the firewall, build a new front section and toss a solid axle under there while your at it
