Good luck on the tub, it’s a pita.

I’m not a fan of KM2’s at all, mine were dry rotting after 5 years really badly.

Got 3 hours of cutting in on the passenger side today. Top went very quickly but the bottom is SLOW going because there is a butt load of wiring down there. Way worse than the driver side. Hopefully I'll finish cutting the tub out after work tomorrow night.

Also, snorkel was going to be a pain to remove so I used this solution haha. Suspended the whole panel from the ceiling of my shop.

Solution: don’t get a snorkel in the first place

They can be a little gimmicky and look kinda goofy, but I'm glad I have mine. Clean air, cheap insurance, and I have actually had to use it for its more 'well known' use. Dunked the whole front end of my truck in a hole with water over the hood last summer. Whole hood was under for a solid 30 seconds. Fairly confident that the snorkel saved my engine. Haters gonna hate but I like mine

Aren't you worried about the steering rack running 35s and a front locker?

Yes actually. Considering building some type of better cooler for it to see if that helps

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you had the stock airbox on you would have been fine too. If the water was actually at a level under the hood that it would enter the intake, then you are grounding out your alternator and you've got big issues electrically that would not be soon forgotten. The bow wave may have gone over the hood but the water level probably was not.

Don't get me wrong, I like the direction of your build with lunchboxes and putting it together as cheap as possible!

Yeah I've heard a lot of speculation about how safe the stock intake really is and how vulnerable the electrical components are. I'm sure there's a lot of truth there, but all I can speak on is my own experience.

And thanks! Haha dont worry, I didn't take it that way.

Also yes, lunch boxes are the shit. Love em. Once I get a new daily I'd like to SAS with a mini truck axle, just for the strength. Don't really care about having tons of suspension travel but I'd like to have something a little more sturdy under the front of my truck for 37s. Your and Geoff's builds are more the direction I'd like to end up

Finished tubbing out the passenger side last night. Roughly 5 hours spent on this side in total. But I ran out of time, on the plane to Ft. Worth right now for work. I'll chop the fenders and mount the other 3 tires when I get back, and hopefully weld in the new sheet metal that Saturday.

Ft: Ghetto patch job until I get it welded. Duct tape and undercoating.

Feet got a little wet on the way to work this morning :D
Finally back in town and caught up. Plan is to double check passenger side clearance tonight and pull the wiper fluid res.
Tomorrow I am going to attempt to weld the sheet metal in. Got 16ga. Then I'll cut the fenders if I have any time left. Else that will happen Sunday.
Either Sunday or Tuesday I'll get the rest of the tires mounted

Then time for repairs before LBL and lots of prayers and sacrifices so that my gears are usable for at least another month or two

Anyone have any tips on how to get these welds to stick without burning through the metal? This stuff is a pita

Turn your wire speed down and keep your heat on the lowest setting

My welder only has 2 heat settings I've been running it at minimum heat and 4ish speed, the weld just won't penetrate or stick consistently. Using .030 flux core bc that's all I have and all we have tips for
