my thought process is that a box with a filter in it is going to hold the heat around the filter thus creating a warm spot as the cooler air comes in from the fender well, this is just how i think about it

Even the manufacturer says the alum one gets less performance and it's due to the plastic conducts less heat.

Thou the Alum unit looks better by a mile, why pay extra $$ for less gains in HP.

I personally like the TRD since it takes the air from the fender and goes straight to the throttle body (like most CAIs) avoiding the ridiculous long path of the OEM intake.

OEM will have to do for a long time since suspension is the priority on my truck for now.

doesnt the k&n still suck air theoretically from the wheel well cause it has the box that goes around the whole in the wheel well with an attempt to seal on the top, bottom and sides, it should be sucking through the whole should it not?

I have the 63 series and could definitely feel and hear the difference immediately. It's the only mod I have done so far and I'm very happy with it. Yea the aluminum is flashy and all but like everyone else has mentioned already the 63 will conduct less heat and has higher hp gains (not by much of course) and lucky for me I will be back in texas before I have to deal with another one of cali's emissions. Goodluck if you are from cali!

I have a 77 series and it's awesome! Only complaint is that K&N sent me a knicked chiped pipe but it's not to bad.
