    Morning guys,

My apologies if this has been posted before... Im looking at replacing my air filter for my new* tacoma. Its a 2014 Trd sport and I was looking at getting a K & N air filter. Its re useable and I have extra cleaner/oil from a previous filter on my Mazda. https://www.knfilters.ca/33-2281-replacement-air-filter. Is this filter worth it? or should I stick with a toyota one? Also what fuel do you guys run? Manual says 89 is fine but the manual says to (research 91).

Thanks in advance and have a good one!

AFE ProDry with charcoal filter removed on my 15. 87 octane I get 21-23 mpgs. I stay away from oil gauze air filters.

There is no real reason to get a K&N oiled air filter IMO. I have one and if you live in a particularly dusty environment I think it actually works worse. Would stick with stock IMO. I've mostly run 87 octane since I've owned the truck. I get pinging if i accelerate hard with 87 though. This tends to go away when running higher octane fuel. Your results may vary by region.

OEM is going to filter better than everything else and cause no restriction on an NA'd motor.

Stock intake is a cold air intake, dont fall victim of "aftermarket CAI gives more power"

87 is perfectly fine, the truck sorts itself out as far as timing goes to reducing pinging.

Also no need to remove charcoal filter as it does not restrict / impede air flow at all.

I went with a K&N filter and also removed the charcoal filter. It makes a difference. Additionally running highter octane will help overall.

No, that would be accomplished with a CAT back exhaust.

With just a cat back it sounds equivalent to a honda civic

neither will provide any performance or mpg benefits.

As for your octane rating, it really depends on what elevation you live and spend most of your time driving at. I'm in Reno at >5000 feet and anything other than 87 octane is a simple waste of money. If I were down close to sea level, a higher octane option would like give some small performance bump. Depending on where you are in BC, you may or may not need to even think about it. Many higher elevation states like Utah and Colorado sell their base grade gas at 85 octane.

    Thanks for all your responses.

I went to Toyota and got a stock air filter. ($20 USD or 29 CDN)

As for gas im at about 1/2 a tank, once i get to 1/4 Ill prob go with a top tier gas station like Shell, Chevron, Esso or Co op. I live in a valley elevation is 344m roughly (1128.61 feet).
