Well lets see probably 80% of the off road racers on the west coast which is where the real races are!! Go as many seasons as they can. There are 1000s of racers who run on minimal budgets .Besides you live in Ga. what do you know about off road races!!

So putting a filter on something with 5k on it is a lot of miles? Throwing Obama into it just sounds ignorant... You must be the guy I work with. I bought that vehicle with 5k on it, and immediately dropped a k&n in cause it's cool. You have to understand that dirt can accelerate the valve stem wear, vale guide wear and piston ring wear.... A lot of assumption on your part. Who said it caused it anyways?

Im with XXXX and others - not worth it, even on road/sports cars.

I was dumb enough to put a cold air intake with an oiled foam filter on my old Acura. Was made by the factory supported tuner that sold through dealers (Comptech, out of business now).

What was the result? Well it was louder... In my 20s that seemed cool. A few years down the road the car developed a horrible surging at idle that took me forever to diagnose. Finally took it to a mechanic and he nearly smacked me over hte head telling me it was the obvious most simple thing I overlooked - The throttle body was all gunked up with dirt and oil (filter oil).

    never again.

The problem is people don't maintain their filters. You have to clean and oil the k&n. If you over oil them you get throttle body problems if you don't oil them you dust your engine. I check mine every oil change and if needed I clean and oil it.

Saying the filter sucks because proper maintenance wasn't done is like saying it's the engines fault for sludging up because the oil was never changed.

My experience I cleaned it every 25k. Can't speak for anyone else.
