There's a conspiracy with K&N against TW members. Every TW member that buys one will have their engine fail shortly after they install it. They will get worse gas mileage and possibly catch on fire. Since you have signed up to this site, you are at risk. Put your tin foil hat on for the rest of the answers that will come after me to protect you

My gas milage has remained the same with the k&n air filter, it hasn't blown up or got a mind of its own. Is the air filter new? Is it dirty? Is the secondary filter dirty?

Had mine on for a year, hasn't grenaded yet... gas milage has remained the same. The only thing you gain from this filter is induction noise.

If you plan on having your car last 100-150k miles then DO NOT use a performance air filter. Only use paper filters. K&N type air filters breathe better meaning they dont filter as well and let more dirt and grime into the engine that can cause damage. The few extra or imagined hp is not worth the longevity of your engine!

no conspiracy just people who know the facts, vs uninformed and unknowledgable folks like yourself tdnick

K&N filter = MAF eater + engine sander + ZERO performance benefits = BAD!

These products are consumed by those praying for miracles. Just say no, and save your pennies for something with a tangible payback!

A lot of people don't run them anymore as they actually let a lot of garbage down into the MAF and with it being oiled it lets that into the MAF as well. I have proof as it happened on my 2010

Your stock paper filter works better than one of those.

Basically, same as stuffing sand down a rat hole.....Waste of time, waste of money, negative effects offset any (alleged) positives. If you like noise, drive with your windows open or get a recording of a high performance engine at speed and play that on your sound system.

If bound and determined to get shed of cash, just put it in an envelope and send it to me.

Never ceases to amaze me how many people subscribe to the theory that the more you spend, the better it is......SEMA loves you!

I bought my '16 SR5 2.7L on Nov. 15th. A week later I bought a k&n thinking I want the best for my baby. I was a sucker for these filters. But after reading posted here and reading other websites you guys recommended reading, I freaked and went to my local NAPA and bought a NAPA Gold filter. the ultra fine Florida sand that blows around will destroy and engine. I have to agree and stay with paper filters and replace yearly.

    Yes
The only way that happens is if you grossly over oil the filter, I've had a K&N intake since 2006 and I have my OE MAF which has only needed to be cleaned once in 150,000 miles IE: normal, my throttle body has only been cleaned once with minimal normal deposits on it IE: normal, the inside of my K&N intake tube is squeeky clean , the inside of my intake manifold is squeeky clean too.

IMO most of the K&N bash boys are either over oiling or are getting deposits that only an oil catch can can resolve.

What buy a filter cheap it sucks buy a better quality it still sucks but not as bad.Depends what you do drag racing free flow.Sand or dirty running old new oiled.Read up on it not just here..Knowledge Is Golding.Make your own judgment.Oiled filters since the 70's.hmmmmmm.But new paper filters shouldn't be 30$ either.I Have used both, but for what you run it in.You be the judge...

I had a K&N in my 06 and put 175,000 miles on it before and trading it. The new owner has 205,000 on it..... No grenade! I kept my K&N, put it in a '13 for 10,000, and now have it in my 2014 for another 10,000 miles. IMO. It doesn't hurt anything, you get no better mileage, you save money on filters

I find this interesting - from another recent post on this forum - May be some of you have been following it.
"Team #180 will be competing in the 26th annual Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles this week in Morroco, Africa.........
    Other Equipment:
    - TRD 4.0L Supercharger
    - K&N Custom FilterCharger"

1100 KM (683 mi) 0f desert racing on a supercharged engine - wonder what they know, that the self appointed air filter engineers on TW don't. I suspect, that if they didn't see some advantage to running a K&N filter, they could use NAPA gold, etc. I can't think of a more hostile environment, or more risk associated with an air filter related engine failure than 1100 KM across the African desert. There is no "winner" in this debate, but I see little downside to running a properly maintained K&N on the street, or apparently across the Sahara desert.

Factory filter costs $20 and needs to be changed every 3 years / 30,000 miles. Not sure which one is a bigger waste.
