Negative on trd scoop. This is what I'm referring to and also sort of doubles as a snorkel as in water would have to breach the wiper cowl before the intake sucks water

On an unbiased opinion on this... I bought one about a year ago because I thought hey, it's reusable! I can clean it and use it again!

I haven't cleaned it at all yet.. I guess I'm lazy.

Initially I thought it took away all my power, and made the engine sound weird when accelerating. I found out after actually looking that I hadn't clipped the airbox all the way tight, so it was sucking air.

About a year in, the effect this thing has on the MAF is 100% true. I have a rough idle in gear that wasn't there before. If I clean out the MAF and reinstall, it's gone for about 4 days and then comes back. I switched back to a paper filter and haven't had the same issue. I think the MAF doesn't like the oil from the filter. I didn't lose any mpg though to answer the initial question.

Used them for years No problem.Depends on environment and useage. All aftermarket filters offers performance gains for performance applications...remember air in easy air out easy = power been proven for years....regular maintenance always helps.

Never had any issues with any K&Ns on any vehicles before but I now run aFe dry flo filters because they are washable/reusable without needing any oiling or extra anything.

How does the oil get to the MAF if their is a charcoal screen ( secondary air filter?) between the air filter and the MAF

Improper oiling mostly. I've literally never had a MAF issue because of it. Water on the other hand I have

I've had a K&N in my '04 Taco for 12 years, now at 150k miles. No problems and still running strong. I only apply light coats of oil.

I'm currently using OEM paper filters on my 2015 Taco (just swapped one at 20k miles), mostly because I'm still using the included maintenance plan.
