^How dare you inject fact into all this conjecture. Some folks in this thread already have their assumptions made. No point in learning something, right?

I'll stir the pot like I always do...

Who's to say those sites are FACT? And how do we know the numbers posted are true & authentic?

There's tons of tests out there already on the internet. Even K&N has tests listed on their website. Who's tests are accurate?

Not that I don't believe any of the site Chris lists.... I'm simply stating the idea that - why would I believe one site test results over another?
It's the internet - you can believe what you wanna believe and it all boils down to personal preference.

^It all boils down to facts such as those you would receive via an oil study. There's no question that K&N allows more silicates to enter the engine, considering I have oil studies that show it. I went from using a K&N on my Altima to an AEM Dryflow and I have before and after oil studies. The difference was drastic, from a chemistry point of view.

But I could throw the same argument back at you: Who are you to say those sites aren't fact? If I can't prove the are, you sure can't prove they aren't.

Personally, I honestly don't think it will matter what filter you use because your vehicle will probably be fine anyway. However, I choose not to use decades old technology like K&N on a modern engine when something more technologically advanced is available.

BTW, you aren't stirring the pot, you're just giving your opinion and there's certainly nothing wrong with that.

So do you think I should switch to the AEM Dryflow drop in? I rather have what's best for my engine.

Exactly... and exactly why I don't get oil studies done. I use reputable products and I do maintenance regularly (probably more than most) and I don't worry about it.

My 96 tacoma had a K&N filter and Mobile 1 oil for the 5 years that I owned it (sold it in 2004). It was still alive & kickin a month ago. As far as I know, the truck might have been crushed by toyota.

Regardless of having oil studies done - these engines (with proper maintenance) probably outlast the life of the frame/body anyway.

Which drop in filter do you suggest that I buy for my 2001 2.7?

I worked in the clean room business supplying filters and garments and particle free wipers.

The filter reps said that as the air filters trapped more particles, they became more efficient at trapping even more particles, but that although the filtration got better, the load on the air system also got higher.

So, it was more difficult to suck air in through the filter because of the trapped particulate on the filter, but that the trapped particulate helped to trap more particles.

This is true for air filtration. Don't know if it's true for other filtration.

It depends on what you're looking to get from it.

Do some more research and find out what filters most people are running for the same reasons.

Now that I have my exhaust, the K&N added to its sound making it better.

I was thinking the same thing? If so, are they hard to remove? I just dropped in a K&N and the second filter didn't look like it was going to come out easy like the first one.

FWIW, I removed the secondary filter and have seen no improvement.
