Ok, so i know there's a lot of hype about these filters, but got one and found the hp to increase a bit... is there something better then this? (sill trying to get the best fuel efficiency, but some extra power)

also in other threads i've heard about the second air filter, that it should be removed... any particular reason? and where is it?

You have discovered what many call the "PLacebo" affect. Even if you remove the filter completely, only about 1 hp would be gained. The secondary (Charcoal) filter is behind the air filter. Its an emissions device. Many have said it gives more throttle response with it removed on the 2.7 engine, but nothing is gained on the 4.0

Exactly. The only major gain is its cleanable and thats what made it a winner in my book.

As for added throttle response on the 2.7 its more of a laughing matter I put a box on from a junked taco and tested out the secondary filter removal. Same throttle response as my factory box with the charcoal filter so back in with the original box and went and returned the box to the yard.

Actually....I didn't notice any throttle response in the 4.0L with the AFE at first.... until just a couple months ago, I had to put the stock paper filter back in for a couple weeks. I noticed the lack of throttle response with that stock filter (no secondary). I was glad to get the AFE back in!
