Apples and oranges. I can only say you have your opinion, I have mine, and K&N has theirs. Believe what you will. I have yet to believe anyone on a thread over the claims of an established reputable company. K&N says 10.31hp @ 4978rpm, I say I believe their claim that it improves performance, you say negative to no improvement. To each their own.

Thanks Ben. Everyone has their oppinions, and I will respect that. many people take companies at what they say, and they feel better that way. Who wants to think they spent a shit load of money on something, and to find it doesnt do what is advertised?

I was actually on the autoanything site when I cam across this thread. Good thing I read this or I would have bought the AFE Dry Filter. Looks like I will stay with the OEM instead.

In my opinion(not that people give a shit what I think) but if you want performance gain you wont find real performance in a cai...maybe some 1,3, or even 10hp, but to me thats not performance gain. Real gains are going to be in turbo or supercharger, heads, porting, all that fun stuff. If I want power gains I wont mess around with the little stuff as my main source of gains. Go big!!! Just a thought...

i agree with XrunnIT. the fact that you are doing a baseline to get the dyno number and then do 3 run after to get the HP gain from the mod. 3 runs will not give you an accurate reading. i work for a tuning company and i am personally a certified tuner. many times on stock ecu's i have seen cars taking more then 12 runs before they peak out on HP gain. i just bought a 05 tacoma and i bought an K&N for it. i am going to do a baseline and then i am also going to run a Unichip plus a custom tune with it, and now i am sure to gain HP.

K&N ram intake & doug exs.
I have a 02 trd 3.4L and got it a K&N ram intake after about 1yr or 2 of having it and first thing the wife said was it sounded like back when I first got it at first I couldn't see any different but after a few miles if saw it although it cost me a bit more in gas but it took off like a bat out of hell and on an open highway it was and is at its best my tdr now has about 150k on it and it can still kick some ass

Anyhow just thought I share sorry I don’t have any facts or numbers but I’ve always thought the best way to find out if something work for you is to go out and try it after all most thing have some kind of window allowing you to return the item if you’re not happy with it

Colder air = more volumetric efficiency, is better. Thanks for the real world dyno tests. If you were able to add up all the horsepower aftermarket parts manufacturers claimed, 100hp is easy to find, though it won't show up at the dyno. K&N makes great products, I have ran them exclusively on 350 and 400 cubic inch engines for street/strip, but I wouldn't waste money on a setup for a smaller engine which pulls warm air from the engine compartment and has been dyno'd to show insignificant improvement. The graph from K&N even shows less HP on the K&N equipped truck for low RPM. In a street/track race, how long is your truck at 5000 rpm?

An engine is an air pump, if you make it breathe in better, you must also balance that with breathing out better.
