There’s no way to install it backwards. It only fits in one way and only clips to the harness one way

A little something every chance we get.
Disconnect battery completely for a while to reset your computer.

This is not the place to ask questions about K&N filters - the K&N filter haters on this site are merciless.
I would re-install the K&N making sure all of your connections are secure. Restart, and If and after it dies, continue trying (5 or 6 times). There is no reason that the truck should not run with the K&N unless there is an installation error. Contact K&N.
Ps - Your engine won't suffer any catastrophic failure from running a K&N filter and the engine will likely last for as long as you own the truck.......(my personal experience from decades of K&N usage)

Make sure the maf sensor harness is plugged all way in…sometimes it happens to me when I clean my MAF.

Most just hate it because of the fact that they are terrible at filtration. All you are paying for is for bad filtration, more noise, good looks, and increase wear and tear for little to no performance increase. If you want it for good looks and more noise then go for it. If you're looking for more performance increase then your not really going to see much of that at all.

This is a common cause of problems caused by them.

If just enough oil is good, a little more must be better, so too much will be even better. WRONG. The excess gets sucked in the intake, the maf is right after the filter so it gets an oil shower.

I too ran them for years, even being careful when oiling, I still managed to destroy a couple maf sensors.

If you’re gonna use it, you could try oiling it, leave it sitting for the oil to disperse, then wrap it in paper towels overnight to wick out the excess.
