First of all my stock filter is not paper, is some sort of textile.

I installed K&N. Immediately idling was super-smooth. Driving feels bit easier, slight better acceleration. Overall, my engine loves K&N filter.

Reading now the study about filtration actually makes me worried. Only 96.8% filtration is unacceptable for me, especially with plenty gravel road time. I hate this, but I will have actually switch back to stock.

But I still have a question: if oiled filters are so bad, why there is a TRD air filter which seems to be exactly like K&N, except different colour?

Every motorcycle I've put a K&N into has always had dust and dirt on the engine side of the filter, even after rigorous oiling and cleaning. I never run them anymore. Granted I ride my motorcycles in super dusty conditions but I don't trust the K&N's at all to get the job done.

They did all increase airflow and to a degree engine power though, but it was not nearly enough to make the trade off worth it.

I've had the K&N and Amsoil filters and tossed them both in the trash.

I got tired of the oil in the air box and fouled MAF sensor...just not worth it.

The OEM filter is the only one I use now.

No issues on other cars with K&N. If you are sucking oil from the filter it's oiled too much.

I use them in cars that have $20+ paper filters because in 2 years the K&N has paid for itself.

Another thing, I think K&N says you only have to clean it every 100k which to me is a little excessive so I clean it every other oil change which to me cleaning it once a year isn't a pain.

I don't have a k&n filter but I do have an Air Raid filter. It came stock on the tacoma package I got. (Texas Edition) I don't know if it makes any difference but I have no complaints. It takes about 4 hours to clean and the filter refresh kit costs about 10.00 on Amazon. Not a big deal and it's pretty idiot proof. I think my refresh kit will last about 5 filter cleanings. I clean this thing about every 15k miles. Now the only wheeling my tacoma does is the tollway and a couple of curbs at the mall. It works for me and I am happy with it.

I've read to pro's & con's in this article and can honestly say it looks pretty split here.

I have a K&N filter and live in Arizona (pretty dusty) and I have seen a noted increase in my MPG, about 2-4 miles per gallon.... I can also say that I found a really cool tool for cleaning the filters called Power Pic Pro. It fits on a garden hose and cleans the thing like brand new. I do use a pre-soak of my creation, Dawn dish liquid and some Oxiclean in a bucket for about an hour or two. I like both the filters and the tool for cleaning.... Just sayin'

2-4 MPG, your old filter must have been ridiculously clogged up.

That wouldn't matter, zero mpg improvement is the truth.

I also learned a little bit better habits along with the filter.... It's amazing when you don't gun the gas all the time.....:)

I do still get at least a 1 1/2 MPG improvement here though.... It's better than not getting it...
