I don’t know where to start now. The bit that broke off is sticking out but I can’t get it out. What the hell can I do? I put it in this thread wondering if anyone knows a local shop that can do something.

Beautiful pup, how old? Looks like there’s more growth to come. St. Bernard mix?

I’ve put a metal saw blade on cut a solid straight line deep enough to get a flat head screw driver on it a try. That’s worked for me several times.

That was my first thought but couldn’t get my dremmel to get through the metal. Now I’ll have to make a slot to get that line through the piece of drill bit and bolt head. I’m so p!ssed the factory made these so tight.

Yeah I’ve destroyed several bolts over the years either by my negligence or whatever. Metal saw blade I used was on a screw driver handle but like a sawzall blade. Like this.

Same trick I use. Don't forget to absolutely soak that thing in BB blast or something similar. Let it sit overnight. Unfortunately, winter and corrosion can really destroy these low grade bolts that are on the bed hardware

Thanks! FYI it’s not corroded. Brand new truck with only 1,000 miles and garaged. Just screwed in at the factory WAY too tight.

650 of that 1,000 was the drive home. Between a month out of town and teleworking it’s neglected. I did finally use it however as my wife bought some more FB marketplace furniture.

He's a australian cattle dog/great pyrenees mix. I thought he was a australian cattle dog/St. Bernard mix at first.

He's 10 months, 75lbs+, and more growing to do.

Tried to do some fender chopping yesterday, but ended up doing drywall instead. Why does HD have to charge $140 for a angle grinder... without a battery/charger? WTF.

Nice beautiful mix pup and that is pricey for sure. If I don’t use power tool consistently then I just get corded. Beats finding out a battery is dead after seldom use for me.

I don't mind corded, but if it comes to an angle grinder, I'd rather be cordless.

No, I don’t have a tool that can get between the rails and grind a slot for a standard bit to hold on to. Another suggestion I got was to get a cobalt bit to drill through the stuck steel bit piece.

Like I said, I think having 4 of 5 brackets tight and the 5th held in place by the attached lowered bed rail might be secure enough for the cover to not move. So I’d like to not ruin the casing but just want the damn thing off.
