Proper sims are some of the most hardware intensive things you can play.

if you are talking about the microsoft flight sim that came out in 2020 that gets updated every year and atm is the best one on the market... my pc can run it easily...

Yes, now that I don't have a tv for a monitor, I run at the refresh rate of my monitor, 144. And I can finally use V-sync without it make things worse.

But consoles only run at 60fps, so I was comparing it with a dated computer system, getting 60fps is easy while still maintaining a decent fidelity of graphics, especially if your big money item was a decent gpu, since they run several generations of games before being unable to keep up on high-ultra settings.

Besides, I figured since you're in IT you'd know that Linux is the best OS since it's no frills attached, runs super clean, and can simulate both Windows and MacOS for whatever you need it to. With Microsoft adding all their bs hoops to jump through and bloatware, and Mac's inability to function on most games, self-tailored Linux operating systems are becoming more and more popular. Take SteamOS for example. Valve started with it only on their portable steam deck handheld and are soon going to be rolling it out as a full OS.

I can't stand Mac OS, or Apple in general, and Microsoft I have to gut their OS to make it run halfway decent of all the bs, like their xbox gaming service that constantly runs on bootup and you aren't allowed to disable it, and various others. Currently Windows 10 if left alone, has a diagnostic logging background program that just infinitely stores logs in one file that it keeps open in memory. You have to manually go in and delete the file every so often or it eats up all your memory. Who's big brain idea was that and why haven't they patched it? But they sure as shit try to reinstall internet explorer and Cortana every time I let it do an update....

 

Tie fighter? I remember the old Win/DOS starwars X-wing game. That and Doom back in the old days.

Never been seriously into video games, but funny anecdote from last Sunday.

We were at our monthly local Lego group meeting, discussing ideas for an upcoming Disney-themed project. One guy freshly out of college proudly proclaimed they're releasing a remake of Epic Mickey. When asked what that was, he replied "a really old video game."

Later that night I lost him by talking about starting games with "quit to DOS"

C&C is still gaining popularity after the remasters and resurgence of online servers and tournaments.

I'm not into tournament play, but with mod teams firing back up for updates and hype, it's kinda fun.

Not necessarily. I can fire any steam game with controller compatibility right up into controller use. No extra steps once it's setup. Steam's got it down pat once it detects your controller. Xbox controllers are even more easy to setup since Microsoft owns that proprietary tech. I use a PS4 controller on my setup which is a little more finicky, but still works great once set up.

 

PS5 can run 4k/120 if the game supports it

Microsoft has always been full of bloat and it’s only gotten worse. Sure Linux might be more stripped down but it has its own set of issues. It’s gotten better in recent years. A big reason people are moving (especially the enterprise) is because of Microsoft’s licensing.

A lot of places are also trying to mimic what Apple has done with vertical integration as they’ve seen the benefits of owning the full hardware and software stack. One of Microsoft’s biggest problems is having to support so many different devices and the associated drives for said devices.

people like to hate on apple but what they’ve done with apple silicon and metal over the last couple years is pretty amazing. My MacBook Pro runs silent running 2x 5k displays, the intel generation struggled with that. There’s windows devices that can but you need to goto models with dedicated gpus which turns into a 10 lb laptop and 1 hour of battery life. I can typically easily get 16 or more hours on the battery.

There are more big names starting to support the platform, they just never had the market share in the past to be worth the development time.

 

a controller is easy thou? ill play gta on my pc on controller since it just feels better idk if that makes sense lol. i just have a cable ran behind my monitors that i grab and plug into my controller when i want to play

 

A lot of retro games are coming back because there’s been a lack of decent new games over the last few years.
