Howdy all, been lurking on and off for a long time, but I've got to come out of the shadows to get some opinions.

Jay Wolfe Toyota is quoting me about $7.3k for replacing a blown head gasket and everything that comes with it. I'll have to go in tomorrow to see the full breakdown on their estimate, but does that seem high to anyone else? I've been looking around online for about an hour and the prices I'm seeing from within the last couple years is significantly less (around $1.5k-$2k). What's the deal?

Pretty sure you can get a new motor for not much more than that if you had blown a hole in the block.

@TacomaDad18 is the local expert on that

Right, which is exactly what I would expect for that level of damage...but just a blown head gasket? o_O I'll know more tomorrow when I go in to see them. It could be a lot worse than the guy let-on over the phone.

Yup. Seems excessive for the head gasket. I’m guessing there’s a bunch of other unnecessary stuff they added on there.

I keep forgetting. There's a Jay Wolf Toyota in Kansas City as well. The one here is really good at separating people from their money. I don't know that the work is necessarily bad.... But boy howdy do they sell a lot of stuff people don't need.

As far as that estimate, that is pretty high. There's gotta be some other stuff in there. Maybe they're doing a timing cover as well? That would fit in with that price point. When you get a chance screenshot those estimates and get them in here.

was doing some testing to see if my tent would fit on my truck and go into my garage and sadly it dont so gonna sell this tent and get a more low profile one so the truck can still go into the garage but for now it will sit outside. at least it looks the part and i can start doing some small local trips with a buddy of mine here soon.

I'm honestly not sure if it took more or less time than I was expecting for you to deviate from your initial plan.

i never deviated from any plan? the plan was to put my tent back on the truck and sell my camping trailer since i dont use it anymore.

the reason i said no bed rack at the time is i had a lead on bed bars buuuut that dude sold them so they never got bought
no he didnt what did you guys think i was going to do? i have it all listed on the stuff i plan to do with this truck and i stated i plan to have it setup like my grey truck was back in like 2019ish without the steel bumpers. go back to a slimline winch mount in the front and decent suspension

again no... ive had this tent since late 2018 early 2019... the goal was to have a tent on this truck once my trailer was sold.

well i said no rack i dont count bed bars as a rack lol but as stated that didnt pan out and i gave up and bought my old rack back for cheaper then a set of new bed bars so that is the only part of my plan that changed...

Justify it all you want, it's still a deviation from aforementioned stated plan
