Spark plugs won't wake it up but cam gears, solenoids and a s/c and tune will!

 

well yes but there is no record i can find (which i have a lot of...) where spark plugs were done so gonna do em anyways so its done since it will help fuel economy a bit and accel if the plugs are shit like im guessing they are. i have records of every service on this truck since it was bought but not a single one ever states spark plugs so they are most likely old.

its also prob me still use to the power the ranger had and coming back to something slower lol

 

Back when I looked a used 3.5 was around 2-3k. Dealership wanted 4800-5600 for a new one.

I think in total (whole drivetrain) I have like 8k into the 1UZ.

 

You just need a super charger. That’ll wake it up

Ranger is fast as fuck. For a midsize. I'd put one up against a 2nd gen Frontier though. Boy howdy

Get the modern iridium plugs. Denso/Toyota stoped making copper plugs last year, although there are still about 64 million in parts inventory around the world lol. Plus you'll get longer life and slightly hotter performance.

Clean your throttle body while doing the plugs too. That WILL wake it up a bit.

And because you have a 1GR, an intake runner spacers and a cam retard gear mod is well worth it

ya it really is.. i got to drive a buddy of mines that was tuned and holy shit it was quick! ive driven the new frontiers and they are fun but idk if id say its faster. really nice trucks thou but got damn are they pricey!

yuup thats the plan but i normally go with ngk dont think ive ever bought denso tbh. and ya was planning on cleaning the throttle body.

intake spacers? ive heard of the cam gear but never the intake runner spacer before ill have to look into that one.

 

Got a good look at a new frontier the other day on the way home. Really looks like they took 2.5 Gen and a 3rd Gen and smashed em together.

That's why I said second gen Frontier... Not third. The second gen's are some of the fastest trucks I've ever been in.

NGL makes good plugs. You're ok there.

isnt it the same power train? ive driven both 2nd and 3rd and they feel the same with fancier stuffs my issue with them was the early 2nd gens had a lot of cab rust issues with them that they fixed later on and are now great little trucks.

not when i was looking... dealers were putting 3-4k markups on colors... so i said screw it and went away from it lol

 

No. Second, gen's had most commonly the 4.0 L. V6. Similar but not the same as the Toyota 1GR lol.

Five-speed Auto 6-speed manual with only one overdrive and you're one to one gear was fifth, not 4th. Much better manual setup than the taco.

The new Frontier is 3.8 L with a 9 speed Mercedes derived auto and is smooth as butter. Great power delivery feels more like a truck than all the other mid-size trucks on the market.

 

right i forgot they had the old 4.0 in the older ones the 3.8 drives really nice thou. the reason i liked the ranger so much is it didnt really feel like a truck it turned super sharp and had great handling and was smooth so it felt more like a car which tbh was nice for a daily haha
