I'm dragging a 2G home this week from CO starting tomorrow and 90% sure I'll be stopping for a night near KC or Topeka or so. Any suggestions to where I might try some of that KC BBQ? I've had KC style, inspired by KC...but not sure I've had the genuine article. I'm running solo this trip and not fussy, cool joints are cool but really I don't care if it's served out of an old propane tank mounted in some guy's trunk behind a strip club (actually this was not far off of where I had some of the best Mexican in Seattle come to think of it). This would be...let's see, Friday evening (28th) if all goes to plan.

The pizza place they are talking about has gone down hill in the blue springs location... It's called Minsky's pizza they have an og location I think in independence? But can't remember

 

So they went down hill..figuratively or literally? Two very different interpretations of that, haha! I feel like I have heard of Minsky's but I could be making that up.

 

So my family has been going to the blue springs location for years. They use to be amazing and had great service and great food but in the last couple years they quality sucks the service sucks ass... Stuff isn't cooked properly it takes forever to get it.... And other things.. so we now stay away from that location.

 

Ugh, I know that pain. The place I grew up with is technically still around, but in name only. It's still OK pizza, better than a lot, but I think they're doomed..their nice locations shuttered and the one that's left looks like they went out of business years ago but the squatters keep making pizza for some reason..most depressing eatery I've ever been in that I can recall.

There is a Dickeys (chain) off highway 24 parallel to 70. Standard bbq on your way past / through Topeka. There is really nothing in Topeka worth going out of your way for. Haven’t been impressed with bbq here since moving out her years ago. Not sure in KC.
