Yup, the 80 series can be had with triple lockers and solid axles front and back which the 100 series can't. So definitely the 80 is better off-road and sucks on road.

I think I am going to daily the 100 after a fix some minor issues on it.

the 80 can still be a good daily its just rougher then the others because of its setup.

buddy of mine has owned almost all flavors of fj minus umm, fj55, fj40, fjc, fj70s, i cant remember if he owned a 60 series or not thou? i think he had for awhile but it was to fix it up and then never did if i remember right?

other downside with the 80 series it the motor... god is it slow af and a pain in the ass! get it a tiny bit wet and they shut off because of the distributor and a few other things they didnt seal..

Although the later years 4.5 is better, you are correct, still slow.

I prefer the 4.7s the most, even more than the 5.7 in my 200 and sequioa and 4.6 in my gx/LS. Is it as powerful as the others, no, but it's adequate and perfectly mated to those 5 speeds. I rarely go above 3k rpm. All that yummy torque down low. Buttery smooth!

I think if I find a great 08-09gx470 I am going to sell my gx460! It will probably sell for more than I paid for it anyway. Last year model and less than 1k miles. Just sits.

ya its just gutless for such a fatpig to move it around lol

ive driven both the 4.7 and 5.7 never the 4.6 thou. i think for me i do like the 4.7 a lot but i do prefer the 5.7 now if i could take the 5.7 and shove it into a first gen tundra that would be awesome tbh!

Think of the 4.6 as the 3.5. Forced car/minivan engine in an suv. Does this job, but needs to be pushed to get it done!

Went into this week needing to write one report on last week's run down to Louisiana. Haven't started that yet but have been to three different mines for various issues that have popped up, including driving to your neck of the woods on Tuesday.

One of my guys quit a couple weeks ago. Another isn't even three months in and still very green, and just a bit of a piece of work...

Got another new guy starting Monday while I'm gone, but he's got nearly 40 years of experience. Couldn't be happier to finally have someone I don't have to worry about.

Hell no. I've known this guy for years. Probably one of the best hires we could have made.

hmmm.... Then maybe a 200 series TD! I will be AARP qualified by the time those can be imported anyway! So slower the better!

I used to have a Toyota Fortuner in India with the 3.0 TD. I believe it's the same as a Hilux Surf and similar to the 4runner. That thing was an absolute beast!

Assuming life doesn't put it's foot in my ass again, I'm planning on going hard after a KJ77 series. Don't care if it's auto or manual. Lol
