@jeff b What you could do is just reroute the piping for the intake to up in the engine bay a bit. I'd have to take a closer look to really get a feel for what needs to be done.

 

You mean an OEM replacement filter over to the Oiled K&N/Reusable? Or a CAI? A lot of the time a CAI may hinder more than help unless done well. Another idea would be to route it to behind the headlight, with the intake near the grill. Though you'd want to put a 90 turned down at the end just to help keep any rain flying through the grill out. I'm pretty good at McGyver when I can get my hands on it or see it first hand.
