You actually want the bumper to deform to a certain extent to absorb some of the energy. No energy absorption results in more serious damage to your truck and you.

    So. Many. Stickers.
I was thinking about this and pondering the trade offs when off roading of crumpling vs holding steady.

Mine runs when the truck runs, since my outlet is only on with the ignition. If hardwired you can set it up to turn on if it detects any bump when parked and always rolling while in motion.

You can have a balance of both. I'm referring to deformation at a rate greater than 30 mph or about 15 m/s...whatever floats your boat haha. It will be difficult to achieve that at the winch point but you definitely want that area sturdy to withstand any shear force or moment.

Runs with ignition. There are ones now that you can run in “parked mode” as a security cam too. Either 24 hours or until a low battery cut off

Mine's hardwired to the fuse box and comes on with ignition.

I'm waiting for another battery before I consider parking mode.

Also good to protect you in accidents and such. Such as people claiming false events that you could lose.
