    I'm right with you on that. The 3rd gen tailgate bowes out and across though. Wouldn't be too excited
    about leaving it open, locked out that is, to carry a longer load. Also wouldn't want to have to take it on and off a bunch.

    Well the extra support of the tire carrier plus putting on one of those relentless fab(I think that's who makes them) tailgate stiffeners would give you plenty of rigidity.

    Edit: Maybe I could just design a whole new tailgate for the 3rd gen LOL

    I only replaced the tweeters. That was a good enough improvement for me. The subaru kickers are plug and play but it is a tight fit.
