    Very nice!

Only pic I could find quickly of the Honda from a few years ago. That bike was a love/hate relationship. It's the reason I have presently sworn off carburetors and it's not exactly laid out for tall people. First vehicle I've ever reconditioned and gotten running again

    And the Bumblebee
    20150901_133902~2.jpg

That was a great trip. Spent four days riding two-lane roads from KC down to South Carolina, then hopped on a sailboat with three guys I'd known for less than two days and sailed up the east coast. I was the only non-South African on the trip

All my bikes have been fuel injected and it would take a lot to convince me not to

It’s nice always starting right up in spring / cold / whatever. Neighbor had a carb bike and would spend hours fucking with it in the spring getting it to go

I think it really depends on the carb. Mine was carbed and it never gave me any trouble after I cleaned it the first time. But it was a single. Once you get into multiple cylinder bikes, it sounds like carb headaches really compound.

Yup, BMW was fuel injected. It was fantastic. Too bad the rest of it was so... German...

Singles don't bother me, but the quads on the Honda were challenging to say the least. Never could get cylinder 1 to sync and I didn't want to tear into the head/valves to check if that was the issue. Upside is I bought my favorite screwdriver just to work on those carbs

The people you meet along the way are the best. Some of them really get you out of your comfort zones, and some people you feel like you've known for years. And often from other countries too. Something about bikes, i think.

Couldn't agree more. Definitely could say that about bikes specifically, but also just how you travel in general. A couple years ago I flew to Ireland for two weeks with no plan. Didn't even have a place to stay the first night until I was waiting on my layover. Met some of the best people that trip.

I need to do more trips out of my comfort zone, like you said. Really, more trips overall

The best trips are always the ones with no plan and you just wing it along the way

This is how I ended up hanging out on a beach with 2 Germans and 2 Belgians drinking shitty beer and eating fresh salmon. 10/10, would do again.

I want to go up to Alaska so bad. Original intent was by bike, probably will actually be on four wheels.

Bucket list trip is Barrow, AK, to as far south as I can get in Argentina. Part of of the reason I want to import a 70 series

I think if I did it again, it would be on 4 wheels for sure. I ran into a lot of things that I would want to hike or check out in the middle of nowhere, and just didn't have anywhere to stash the bike (and the food). At least with a car you've got some options.

That sounds like a fantastic trip. Might check out Tukaktoyuktuk too. I was originally going to do the Dalton highway, but a guy i met along the away convinced me to the dempster instead. I didn't regret it. South America sounds amazing, although I think takes a lot more research and up-to-date info (on the political side especially).

How long you expect a trip like that to take?

Alaska was my 2020 trip... until 2020 happened.. planned to take my tundra, that was kinda the entire justification for buying it

    Welcome to the party

    Worth looking into. Thanks

I'm planning at least three months. Gives me time to sightsee and generally not be in a hurry. Needless to say, it's several years down the road at best...
