Latest update. I did not finance my truck, I wrote a check and put a stop on the check until this is resolved. The sales guy will research and let me know in the morning. I'm suggesting that the Karr was never installed.
    Stay tuned :)

That would be a win 2X for ya. The money back in your pocket and none of the d*mned wiring butchery for aftermarket alarms.

They accepted a regular bank check and didn't wait for it to clear before handing over the paperwork? Things have changed since 2018 when I paid for mine. Just getting clarification.

Edit: My dealer wanted wire and we had to wait for verification.

What keyless remotes do you have? Are they Toyota's or aftermarket? I bought my SR that had the Karr alarm (with Karr remotes) & I removed it then got an N2 Designs keyless entry...couldn't be happier..

Here's the one from my 2023 that they told me they removed when I refused to pay for it. They lie. It's their nature. No more dead batteries. Had a guy at a car stereo place remove it.IMG_1710.jpg

Two screws, cut a zip tie and disconnect all the male connectors from the T-taps. Really nothing to it.

Didn't you have reconnect/splice back together the main starter wire, which was cut (grrr...) to put the alarm control box in the circuit? All the alarms I've removed that was the main thing that took care.

This shows the original ignition circuit (green with black tracer) cut to insert the KARR control box (the larger gauge orange wires).

As I manipulated everything getting ready to remove the alarm, one of the orange wires simply pulled out of the poorly-crimped butt splice. This is one of the reasons I hate these f'ing things. That same open circuit could have -- probably would have -- happened out camping some time, where diagnosis and fixing woulda been a lot trickier than in my driveway.

Here's everything that came out of my Gen 2's KARR installation when I took it all off.

Here's where the KARR control box was mounted above my 2015 DC's driver side kick panel. This is a pretty typical location to look for one.

It’s in your kick pannel down by the hood opener latch you’ll see hacked and poorly spliced wires the retard stealership techs did

1st and 2nd Gens starter was cut and needed to be reconnected. 3rd gens I’ve removed did not have starter disabled.
    Haven’t worked on a 4th gen

I was talking to a dealer who had something called Waypoint that was a GPS tracker with an app, but it didn’t have remote kill ability, just tracking and alerting. It included a lifetime subscription for $500. They said it was required and non-negotiate. I didn’t end up buying it though, but not because of that. Seems to be a thing some places do is my point.

Rip offs like this will continue until people take the time to get a little more educated on all of these preloads (add ons) before they buy. Paying exorbitant prices for things like window tint or door edge guards or for putting green valve caps on your tires and claiming they replaced your air (78% nitrogen) with 100% nitrogen are bad enough. But I NEVER buy a vehicle that's been butchered by splicing in any of the aftermarket ignition disabling devices, GPS systems, or alarms. I consider that damage and I don't pay new car prices for damaged cars. I always research all the dealerships within 200 miles of me and I only buy from those with minimal or no preloads. All this is, is a huge additional profit for them and they get away with continuing to do it because some folks will gladly give them free money to get that shiny new object a couple days quicker. If it's not on the manufacturer's window sticker (Monroney sticker) don't pay for it. If you want to throw away thousands of dollars, call me. I'll be glad to relieve you of that burden.

What tacoma trim? I'm ok with them adding some extra garbage and forcing me to buy it (mud flaps, ceramic coatings, fancy all weather mats) but that Karr security thing is something I would turn down the entire vehicle for. You should have told them to get you a model without it, give it to you for free or walk away. if they sell it to you for free, rip that damn thing out and mail it back to them. Unless it was a Pro or a Trailhunter...nah. Walk. Go to another dealer.

Sorry but you have the money so therefore you were not FORCED. You could have done what I would have done and walked from them and not given them a dime. Dealers like this should not be in business.

Dealers wouldn’t treat customers like ATM machines if they didn’t allow it. I would have walked away- hundreds of thousands of Toyotas being produced each year- shop where you are treated with respect and valued as a customer.

You had the choice not to buy from them. I'm not sure how you were "forced" to buy it. :notsure:

I was lied to. I was told that all Toyotas come with Karr and no way out of it. Maybe forced is the wrong word, but sometimes you are naive and don't know it :)
