Having lived in St Louis, Chicago, and Huntsville, I've come to this conclusion:

Chicago drivers are insane, and it's surprising there aren't even more wrecks. Flying at 60+mph down the shoulder during traffic jams on the dan ryan expressway, anyone?

By comparison, St Louis drivers are great. We tend to roll stop signs, but other than that, move at a decent clip without being total assholes.

Alabama has many drivers who go 55mph on the 70mph-rated freeways and drive me bonkers. They certainly don't do anything crazy, but they do go frustratingly slow.

My conclusion? I'll take the drivers that go the speed limit, but sometimes roll a few stop signs (while checking for cars)...

The best part about St. Louis is if you live there long enough, you can tell where a person is from by how they drive.

South County -- No turn signals. Rolls stop signs.

Chesterfield -- Drive fast EVERYWHERE. Always in a big damn hurry.

St. Charles -- You move out of the lane they're in because you don't know what's going to fly off the car next.

North St. Louis -- don't turn their headlights on until at least 45 minutes after dark.

That, and the minimum on the highways is, like, 80. There are also no "fast lanes." The lane with the least amount of traffic in it currently is the Fast Lane.

I remember the first time I drove in L.A. on the highways, it was very crazy. I had to really get up on the steering wheel and drive like a race car driver and be a very defensive driver.
Before the housing collapse we had a lot of people from L.A. move here, noticed a lot bad drivers, little less now.

It sure would be the day if we could all learn to get along on the road, go the speed limit or a little over, keep good distance apart, use turn signals, etc, etc. Our insurance would go down, and would have less traffic jams. Well, maybe not much with the insurance, but you get what I mean. lol

very true. us kirkwoodians just tend to be complete assholes, not only in the way we drive but in what we say/gesture towards other drivers
