Too dammed expensive, guy was trying to do it out here and decided after trying to locate parts that it was a no go.

 

Seriously... I thought it was a "work in progress" but the guy had a prerunner style tube front bumper.
He had a DSM 5-lug RC, and he swapped in a white 4x4 bed and front fenders. At first I thought it was glass until I got closer.

It really did look bad. Stock wheels, looked like maybe 235 AT rubber... which of course were completely tucked under the stock fenders (and the whole truck was at stock height).

 

Isn't he also using wheel spacers and MT?

 

Not the same truck rick, what your describing sounds like puke. But yes ry did have spaxers with xrunner wheels but hia shit was slammed, at first

Ok so quick update, I started cutting on the test piece and here is how it turned out so far.

And after that I braced the position so now it is ready for fiberglass.





Hardest part is gonna be matching the form of both sides. On the final set, the gap will be much closer because I now know how much to cut down the mounting rails.

I will keep everyone posted.

 

That's ABS. Fiberglass is not going to last, no matter how much you sand it.

It needs to be plastic-welded, using ABS filler material, and either heat, or a solvent.

I used regular plumbing ABS cement on my Satoshi.

 

Good to know, I have some extra plastic I can use to fill the gap and use that ABS cement to hold it together, is it easy to work with.

So what exactly is the process as far as prep and application? I have never used this before so any advice would be awesome.

 

You want to be adhering abs to abs.
Best bet would be to get your part to the proper length you need it to be at and then use the cut out section as backer and filler.

This is essentially how I fill the sides for the satoshi's - I use abs to fill the gaps.

Like rich stated - fiberglass is not your best choice....

 

Well it's a good thing this is a test run. I would have learned the hard way later down the road after it was painted.

Well I have to order the ABS cement, no one in the area carries any so the progress is postponed until next weekend.

That's crazy... ABS cement is in every plumbing department on the planet that carries black "plastic" sewer pipe.

And ditto on Homer's comment on backing. You'll have to be careful to avoid getting into the area occupied by the rocker panel, but there should be enough room back there for at least one layer of uncut ABS.

Secured solidly to the truck on both sides of the joint, cemented with ABS cement, a butt-joint might last and not crack. Make it a lap joint with a piece across the back that's a few inches long and the chances of it not cracking go up a lot.
