I am looking to add after market roof racks to carry two kayaks and am looking for suggestions. New to the community and would love to hear your preferences.

I have a 2012 Double Cab V6 Prerunner and am looking for the same thing, a roof rack that can hold 2 tandem kayaks safely. I have the Thule L brackets to hold them, but the factory racks seem like they might not work. I have looked at the Yakima, and Thule racks but not interested in anything that clamps onto the door frame. Hopefully someone can chime in with some options. Currently I have a naked roof.

I have a Yakima rack with a faring. I like that I can remove it when I'm not using it (most of the time). I lose around 1.5 mpg when it's on, without anything on it.

I think the Prinzu might work well after looking at some of the threads but pretti costly.

When I got a topper, I put a rack on it too.

Spreading out the load as much as possible is wise. If there's too much weight on the back bar...

Yes, that is, in fact, my truck

The Prinsu racks are rad. By the time you get towers, bars, locks, and a basket from Yakima or Thule...you could have bought a Prinsu.

Just get the OEM rack and the harbor freight bed extender. Works like a charm

Some members here have cut them, jb welded them, and installed them. It’s my understanding that the holes are there under the rubber strips

Nope. No holes. You have to drill and add rivnuts. If I'm doing that...I'm putting a Prinsu rack on. Not the wimpy OEM rack. Especially one that's cut and JB Welded.

I've read a couple of those posts. They look good- from 30 feet away.

My last taco had a shell with Yakima bars and I used a Malone saddle to slide kayak on and it sat really nice and secure.

My current taco has racks, I don't want another shell. I bought some nice foam blocks from etrailer that fit snugly on the rack-it cross bars. I'll just strap it tight and go!

If I’m day tripping I just put in back of bed.

I’ve thought about ordering those foamies but my red one is pretty damn flat.

How much MPG's do you lose when you have your kayak(s) on top.
Saw where just the rails drop mpg's by about 1.5.

    Thanks

A good amount. Your basically attaching a parasail to the roof. I'd say maybe average 16-17mpg on the generous side.
