I'd also run a strap from the bow of the kayak to the front of the truck.

How long is the kayak? Is strapping it down in the bed an option? I used to put my kayak on hooks on top of my old Honda Accord and I got super tired of hoisting it that high, especially after using it a few hours. I imagine it would only be harder hoisting it up to the roof of your truck.

    Lol fair enough ...
    2 x 10 footers
I have a long box with a tool box and a rtt on bed racks lol .
Destroying my kayaks loading them in the bed with gate down.
Also no room for camping gear that way.

Do you have the factory rack already? You'll need the side racks and crossbars along with those kayak racks.

I run kayaks on racks on my wife's SUV often. Around town and under 40, I never use them. On the freeway, definitely needed.
