I would recommend the HD Crossbars or XRXS Crossbar for that application.

I'm interested in a pair of the HD bars (for potential RTT in the very far away future). Is there a promo code for those ones as well?

You'd have them in about a week from the time of order placement.

Nope, needed a way to lock and secure my fishing rods. They have a habit of walking away in parking lots.

@KB Voodoo , would a Smittybilt Defender Roof Rack model #40204 mount onto your bars? What sort of hardware would I need to make this happen? I don't want a basket that covers my entire bed and the Defender meets my requirements at 4'x2'x4"

Also, I came across this old video on youtube that shoes exactly what I'm wanting to do:

Looks like it would bolt right on. You would just use 1/4"-20 bolts from your hardware store.

I was also wondering about the capacity. I assume you couldn't walk across them?

Theses Yakima racks would work great on your bed cross-bars. I had them mounted on an Undercover solid top on my Frontier, that I traded to get the Taco. Only other concern, is security, wouldn't want the whole set-up to disappear.

I wouldn't walk on them, but they're more than strong enough for mountain bikes and ski racks.

Security isn't really an issue. Nobody would be interested in sliding the bar and cleat system all the way to the back of the truck.

I also just saw the heavy duty bed brackets you are working on, even better. I've been toying with just strapping my bikes in the bed, to keep my clearance low. Wasn't a huge issue on the Frontier, but my Tacoma is a lot higher than the Frontier. Thanks for the info. Maybe others will like the Yakima rack. I needed it, since my Cannondale has the Lefty and the front wheel doesn't come off easily.

@KB Voodoo , I'm new to racks & bars. In your opinion, what's the best way to keep someone from walking off with my rack?

    Bada bing:

Thanks! Bars are super sturdy and the finish is GREAT. Very nice product. Now I'm eying those caps of yours :) Defender rack lined up perfectly and went on with some 3/4" #20s, some washers top & bottom & locking nuts. Everything is solid. No bounce. I can grab the rack and shake my entire truck. The rack is low profile enough that it's unobtrusive but sits high enough for plenty of room underneath. Now I can strap down essentials and slide longer stuff underneath for trips. A+ product and service!
