I haven’t seen any of these mounted with the Diamondback covers but I’m pretty sure they would work. Has anybody been able to put a horizontal mount between the brackets on the side of the car, or something to mount a highlift or shovel? Do you think there’s enough space?

I'm sorry if its been asked on the thread already. How easy is it to remove the cross bar? 5-10 mins?

Has anyone been able to mount anything to the side of their truck using these?

Do you mean attaching something to the outside of the bracket? I’ve wondered if I could put a RTT on the bars and then work out a way to put bike mounts on the outside of the upright bracket, on the outside edges of the tent.

I was thinking about a mount on the sides of the brackets, not on the cross bars. Those 3 lazer cut holes on the brackets make me want to use them!

A tube for a fishing rod would be pretty cool.

That’s EXACTLY what I was thinking. With a short 1x1 square tube I want to cut like 6” length that sticks straight out from the bracket (using those holes) that I can put fork mounts on and maybe voodoo’s rear bike tire tray to have a bike mounted on the side

(Yeah I drew that myself **not to scale)

Would this work wth the BackFlip MX4? The bed rails are about 1.5” lower or 6.5” from the top of wheel well.

Moving the rails makes it not work.

Hey Chad good morning. Do you have any bed rail mounts that work with the BakFlip MX4 or just the bed rack which is very nice.

Unfortunately no. Bakflip covers are extremely difficult to work with.

I had the same issue and had been looking at the Backflip when I purchased my truck a few months ago. I had actually ordered it. Sent it back and got the RetraxOne MX. This is their roll up version that is not aluminum. That version is more expensive and I think is called the mx pro. I decided I liked the pros of the roll up and did not like the cons of the backflip. The roll up locks nicely. There was some discussion about how some of the flip covers can be slightly pried open and unlocked. Mainly I just needed the convenient access to all portions of the bed while the cross bars are still in place and weather protection. I decided that if I need to use the full bed, like for landscaping or firewood, large items or something, that I’d just use a trailer. That was my process but just want to throw out there that I love the roll up covers. Pricey but it’s a long term item so I went for it.

***Update the rocky mounts I show here don’t work as installed. Too much flex. Read thread here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/posts/17472687/. ****. I going to look for a different bike attachment to use with the voodoo bars.

Finally had a chance to take a better photo of my retrax and cross bar setup.

This is exactly what I want to do with my Retrax! Looks so good. Any issues with the Retrax after the mount install? Really curious if it remains water resistant.

***update: no issue with the retrax and voodoo setup, but the rocky mounts are not working for me. I will look for a different bike attachment. See thread here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/posts/17472687/ *****

No issue! When I was bolting in the clamps to the bed rails, I pushed down on the top of the retrax channel, compressing the foam seal under the channel. The foam is thick enough and good quality, maybe 3/8 thick. The retrax channel is strong, no bowing that I could see. Foam wraps right around the cross bar brackets. Cross bars are as far apart as they will go, I don’t see a adjusting them again. Also a word on the drain tubes that are part of the retrax. Looks like you’d have to drill holes in the bed to get those out. I have one of those thick OEM rubber mats. I just tucked the drain tubes under that. Any water drains under the mat onto the bed channels. Probably ok. I might look at the tube placement maybe get it to line up better with existing drain holes, use bed as gutter. Definitely dry on the mat. Water should stay on channels on bed. Not much rain here but car washing totally dry.

Thanks so much for the extra pics.
I saw that Retrax has a new bed rail coming out: https://youtu.be/LvoAsmMZhOY

I emailed Retrax and they said they’d be available in the summer. But I prefer the Voodoo.
