The GM twins could be better than the Taco in every way and cheaper and I still wouldn't buy one. The fact they aren't makes the decision even easier. The bailout still burns me. Waste of my tax money.

No one would spec out their Tacoma with a manual? These guys must be from the Bay Area.

IIRC they paid back their bail out with interest.

For the Tacoma to be considered smoother shifting, the Colorado must really suck.

The other side of the coin is that the Colorado is basically a patch job on an old design from Thailand to meet booming demand for midsize trucks, and it still sells over half as much as the Taco, which just underwent a 'full' redesign.

When GM inevitably does a ground-up redesign of the Colorado for the U.S. market, I have no doubt it will be very impressive. GM has been making some really good vehicles lately; the Cruze/Malibu/Impala are no longer just something you complain about getting at Hertz, and the new Camaro SS is an M4 rival for $30k less.

Right now, I don't really see much appeal for the Colorado/Canyon other than for people that need the diesel for towing/lots of highway miles. The Taco beats it in off road capability/resale value/likely reliability, etc, while the new Ridgeline will surely beat it on comfort/efficiency/urban utility/handling. It's kind of a tweener that excels in neither area.

The guys who review these cars make me laugh. They know jack shit. That being said, the Colorado is a good truck and in many ways better than the Tacoma. I will still choose a Tacoma over a Colorado though but at the rate people are abandoning their 2016's, that may change.

LOL the airbags deploying on the Colorado is downright embarrassing and dangerous. 5-7 miles an hour on a rutted road, god that's terrible.

It has more to do with the idea of a bailout, that is 3rd party intervention in private enterprise. The myth being 1000's of jobs would be lost, which is completely false. Large companies of this size undergo chapter 11 as a reorganization tactic by creditors, the airline industry being a big example. GM would have never failed the company has such a strong history and presence that no creditor would let them fail under the free market. The government teat was just too sweet and offered almost no downside. The problem with a bailout is they never went to that degree of reorganization, which leads the question that they are going to make the same mistakes they once did. There's little doubt that going a traditional Chapter 11 would have been any less successful. Of the 50 billion invested the government lost about 11billion after the treasury sold the last of their assets in 2013.

Really? Killing off several of their brands like Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Saturn along with the associated layoffs that go with killing those brands doesn't strike you as a massive reorganization or trimming of the fat?

It is, but not to the same degree. Even then chapter 11 would have accomplished more without costing 50 billion dollars.

Don't ever buy gasoline or food or fly on an airliner then, because those industries accept far more "intervention" from the government (in the form of subsidies) than GM ever did.

I don't approve of those actions either. And I also speak with my dollar in regards to those industries as well. Obviously the overreach of those affects me regardless of how I attempt to mitigate them. Corporate welfare and subsidies is one of the biggest problems in this country.

Us regular folk just need to donate more to the SuperPACs than corporations if we want a less corporate-centric government. That's how our government works now, for better or for worse.

Personally, I try not to concern myself with matters outside my control. It's not like it's difficult to align your personal financial interests with corporate America's; there are plenty of discount brokerages that let you buy securities periodically for little or no commissions.

AIRBAGS AT THAT SPEED...HOLY SHIT! Roll over protection maybe?

Can you provide some info on the subsidies to airlines and gasoline? I get the food part but, I'm clueless on the others...

I can't sit by and not add my 2 cents. It's not corporate welfare thats the big problem, it's the democrats wanting to give everything away. Giving welfare and obama care to ilegial alians, while us poor working stiffs can't get ahead.

They can be, but it seems like they're frequently are not. Take the ACA for example, damn near wrote by the insurance industry and it benefits the insurance industry. My health care insurance cost just shy of $1500 a month, I have 0 health issues and take no medications. How absolutely ludicrous is this, in what sane world does this seem like an efficient system? I pay $18,000 a year for a system that cost a Canadian $4,300, an Englishman $3,200. Effectively I could have healthcare that's twice as good as the Canadian system and still pocket almost $1000 a month.
