so when i first got my truck i blue booked it and it was telling me that BB value was around 3k about 3 years ago (98 2.7 4x4 5spd 196,000miles) then i just looked at KBB today and input everything (98 2.7 5spd 230,000m, oversized offroad tires, premium wheels) and now the value is showing $8,200 in excelent and 7k in fair.

I put off full coverage on my truck because i didnt think it was worth insuring a $2,500 truck, but now seeing this change makes me think.

has the value always been this high and i did something wrong 3 years ago when filling out the info on kbb or did i some how do something wrong now?

Go to NADA.com and plug in your vehicle info. That's what your vehicle is worth in your area.

Those are the numbers that your bank, insurance company and the car dealers use. They do not use KBB, Edmunds or any of the others.

Then insure its value accordingly as you see fit.

nada.com comes back with 3,500 for rough trade in and 7,300 for clean retail.

If the info you entered is accurate then the "clean retail" price is what a car dealer would be asking for it.

That is also why KBB asks for your zip code because a California truck will be a lot more than those states that have lots of snow and frame issues. My truck, always been a California truck without a hint of rust is booked at 7 grand and its a 96 2wd xtra cab with 150k miles. The same truck back east would only book for half of that because it may have a frame rust issue

I never use KBB. How can a truck be 7 in fair and 8200 in excellent. KBB is garbage.

That NADA is a joke, nowhere near what the trucks go for out here in California. They are a premium out here because of the lack of rust on them. The NADA site says my truck is only worth 5 and my exact truck could easily get 7-8 here. I was offered 8 the other day from a local Toyota dealer and I turned it down
