I was a little disappointed in the KBB value of my Tacoma. I thought a 2017 SR 5speed manual would command a higher price since this option is no longer available. So much for Tacoma resale value in my opinion. Trade in was at $17,000,private part retail at $20,000. And this was at the higher range.I just thought the value would be more.

Stick shift and a 4x4, and it's only worth $17K at trade? How many miles on it? Also, KBB really lowballs the value of Tacomas

My 2010 RC 5-lug automatic had an MSRP of like $17,700-something when new. My dad paid like $14,900 for the truck in September 2009, after negotiating the price down and getting $2,300 for his trade.

My truck has had a couple fender-benders (not my fault) and has almost 109K miles; KBB trade-in value for my truck in "GOOD" condition generally hovers around $5,000-$6,000 with private party at around $7,500. The last time I ran a Carfax report on my truck, the fair market value was listed as like $9,600. Not that I'd ever sell my truck, but if I did, I would try to get at least $9,500 and not go any lower than $9,000. So, despite being a base model 2WD, having almost 109K miles, and having sustained over $2,200 in damage after getting hit by a drunk driver in a Mercedes, my truck only depreciated about five grand from its OTD price ten years ago!

She's got 33,000 and clean. I take good care of the truck, still under warranty for 2 months or 3000 miles whichever comes first.

    My 2017 SR5 V6/Auto 4X4 was worth $27,000 (trade in value per kbb.com - Nov 2019). I paid 31,100. Not bad for 3 years old.
Not sure why yours is so low. Maybe I4/Manual is not popular in your zip code.

    Hey man,

I have been buying and appraising cars for a living all over the country for over 8 years now so from my knowledge here is what I can tell you.

    1. KBB is a joke when it comes to resell on a Tacoma. It is a formula and unfortunately the most trusted out of any estimate site. The best gauge is to find what this car is doing at dealership and backtrack a bit.

    2. You have a 4 cyl access cab SR w/ a stick. The demand for that engine, body, trim and transmission is very low. Majority of the buyers are looking for a higher trim, crew cab and an automatic. As much as I enjoy 5speed, the demand is not there so dealers and private buyers are not going to pay as much, and as you may find a buyer to pay what you feel is right, it will take a lot longer to find that person.

    3. With what options you have on your truck, people are going to want a cheap, reliable, and small truck for those that are searching, keyword there is CHEAP. Many will see this more as a work truck based on these options.

I am not trying to bash on your truck by any means but these are the facts that I can share with you from what I see everyday. Hope you get what you're looking for and best of luck if you do attempt to sell!

TRD 4X4 trucks hold value. The base models, not so much.

And try to get a quote from Carmax or carvana. See what they say. I bet much higher.

Thanks for the reply.I don't take it as a bash at all. I didn't really think of it from your perspective. I thought that the 4cyl manual was a much sought after combination.

I'm in the beginning stages of looking for a new truck. I find the need for a double cab more and more. If the Double cab was not needed I wouldn't think twice about my truck. Reliable, fun to drive and works well for my needs, except for that back seat. I'd probably get another SR only in a double cab. Or I'd go with a Frontier,a lot of features for a lot less $$.

Only to the few delusional on TW. It's a hard pass in the real world.

The 2.7 lost relevance when the second gen regular cab ceased production.

It is, but only by a very small number of people. I think you could sell at $20k easy, and that's about 75% retained value after 3 years which is pretty good. How much do you think a identical age/mileage/selling price Nissan rogue is worth? A lot less.

Wanna trade? You've got my truck in red, I like red more than black :D

An SR, Manual, Access cab is one of the least desirable trucks which may be a contributing factor.

Kbb does not reflect reality for tacomas. That being said a 4 cylinder is not something the average truck buyer is going to look for.

NVLA, I hear what you are saying but here is my experience ...
I got $27,000 in trade for my 2017 DCSB SR5 V6/Auto 4X4. This was the high end of the trade-in value at kbb.com.
The dealer certified the truck, added a warranty and all weather floor mats. They listed it on their web site for $29,500.
My guess is the dealer will probably take 28.5 and make $1,500 or so off the sale? And they paid for a warranty and floor mats.
I think kbb.com got it right in my case.
NOTE: They initially offered me $25,000 and only upped it to 27K when I showed them a kbb.com printout. So it helped me in my case.
