At least yours lasted a year
This is what mine looked like as I was assembling. Just kept coming off.

I'm hoping the whole rack stands up . Given I'm yet to even use it. It only gets mounted while off road and I haven't been on any over night trips since I got it

I was really interested in the following rack. But I just don't want any more unresolved paint/powder coat issues.

I've had mine for 2 years and haven't had any problems. Only part that's chipped is where the mounting bolts rub

I agree my rack is solid with no issues.
I did buy a couple of additional cross members last year that i need to check on (used once for a cross country trip then went to storage).

This looks like an older model (same as mine) so it should have no issues.. Go for it!

You will probably get some type of resolution now depending on the item, because your problem has now been exposed on TW. Some vendors only act when problems are revealed on the forums where they can't be covered-up or ignored.

Sounds like this was a bad batch of materials from his powder coater. Do we know when this batch was done?

I have hi rise bars and the coating chipped off the nubbins on the bracket when installing. It isn't enough for me to complain about but if mine were coated in the bad batch I'd like to know so I can keep a much closer eye on it.

The paint we are talking about is from a chemical reactions under the paint resulting in bubbling of the paint, and eventually rust. It isn't chipping.

Yeah, the paint on my "Hi-rise" brackets are doing the same thing, flaking off in big chunks. I steel wooled the bare areas, primed, and painted them with 4 coats. Will have to see if this resolves it or if I'll need to contact KB for replacements. I will say that the paint on the cross bars are holding up very well which is surprising because that is where I would expect to see the wear flaking off.

I've unfortunately seen this with a lot of parts vendors powder coating (mostly with jeep stuff, I've never bought anything powder coated that held up to a Michigan winter); it's why I always try to order things bare and paint them myself. Now there certainly are some phenomenal powder coat places out there, but they're typically not very fast, and also not cheap. A place near me likes to demonstrate their work by repeatedly hitting a piece with a hammer and not having anything flake off, they are $$$$ to get anything done at though.

I just took a look at my hi-rise brackets and crossbars, there's no bubbling. just the chipped coating from squeezing the tabs of the brackets through the slots of the crossbars (and that's starting to rust, so on my to-do list goes "dap a bit of paint on that stuff").

I'd still like to know when the bad powder coated batch happened just for some piece of mind. of course for this info to be useful it assumes that the affected materials weren't sitting around for a while.

Mine bubbled in about a month of getting it and got worse until I ripped it apart. You'd know. It goes fast.

Sounds and looks like from the pics, you should find a supplier that uses Nitrogen instead of CO2 in their lasers.

    Beware
I was told my parts aren’t part of the botched powder coating job
And all my pictures are normal rust after 8 months
I spent $1279 with Chad and he only refunded me $250
That doesn’t really help me take it apart sand it and get it re powder coated
Everyone says Chad is such a stand up guy. I don’t see what he did as great customer service.
