The DDs are what I'm reading up on now. Since the factory headlights are so dim I've always driven with my fogs on, I was running some cali-raised bulbs (for the fogs) and they were brighter then my low beams (Cheap 6k 'sealight' leds). The yellow color of most fogs can be a little obnoxious while driving all the time. The amber KCs in the wifes 4runner are a great look and have some insane coverage. They have never been an issue while keeping them on all the time and really light up the sides of the roads, but don't seem to annoy anyone passing by cause they're so easy on the eyes. Ill be swapping out the headlights finally on my truck for some of those Tungsram h11s you recommend in hopes I can get some depth back while driving but was hoping to get that same effect as driving the 4runner with the deeper orange than yellow. Ill keep reading up on the DDs and may pick some up to try. If they don't work out like I'm thinking then maybe ill run them in the grill on a switch and then pick up a set of the KCs in clear.

Trust me - since I've had both - the DD fogs blow away the KC's. Get the Sport version and you can run them as often as you want assuming they're properly aimed.

I would highly recommend looking into installing some better low beam bulbs. The best options are the Philips H9 bulb or Tungsram (formally GE) Nighthawk Platinum. It is a massive improvement! The performance of each is listed below from Crashnbrun80's testing and is measured at a distance of 18' from the headlight in a controlled environment.

    Stock Philips H11 - 623 lux
    Tungsram Nighthawk Platinum - 1260 lux - https://www.amazon.com/Tungsram-H11...=1642777054&sprefix=tungsram+,aps,2151&sr=8-3
Philips H9 (German made) - 1294 lux - It's hit and miss if you'll receive German, China or Korean made ones from Amazon. I would recommend just looking locally at parts stores.

As for fog lights, I'm sure you've already found Crashnburn80's thread by now but I'll post the link anyways. Currently the DD SS3's reign king in output and width. The SS3 Max with the clear lens measured 697 lux (brighter than the OEM bulbs in your low beams) and with the amber lens it was 567 lux. These numbers are taken after the light stabilizes for temperature, many manufactures only rate their light output on initial startup and not after output is reduced during thermal stabilization. Remember, this is lux which is the usable amount of light and not lumens which is the max available light an LED chip can produce. Lumens means nothing if the optics are crap. I love the look of the KC fog lights since it has an OEM but I am a function over form type of person so the SS3's were for me. That's also why I have the selective yellow lens because it is far superior to white LED lights in poor weather conditions. I personally cannot recommend the new Morimoto 4Bangers either. For one the HXB (highest output) is not even SAE rated and two, Morimoto is known for grossly overinflating specs.

Would the clears with a yellow/amber laminx be a bad idea? I really like the price point / performance of these but prefer the warm color tone for fogs.

I would think they would end up looking a bit green just going off of the color rating of the light and crash's testing. I don't think there is a film that filters blue, indigo and violet like a Selective Yellow does. But I could be wrong.

Also the light manufactures try to reduce output loses when making the selective yellow lenses, though the KC Amber uses a different LED with no change to the lens. A yellow film will decrease the output of the light, but it is unknown by how much since there are so many manufactures and variables to account for.

If you want Amber specifically, then KC is your best bet. If you want Selective Yellow, then Diode Dynamics is the top dog by quite a long shot.

Additionally, you'll have to seek out a used set of ambers most likely if that's the desired path. They're not in production anymore.

The G4 is a discontinued light, and they don't offer any covers for it.
