KDMax torque gain is on the highend. I’ve noticed much harder shifting at that powerban after the tune. On the low end there is a lot more getup and go but also very jerky.

Just wanted to say hello guys.. I'm John from Overland Tailor and myself and Justin @JustDSM are the developers of the OTT Tune / Overland Tailor Tuning.

    More about us here:
    https://overlandtailor.com/about-us

Our goal as calibrators and developers is somewhat different, in that we want the end user and Tacoma owner to be happy with their truck and calibration. We support the local tuners in providing you, the end user with whatever calibration you like the best, even if that's not OTT.

I certainly understand that there will never be one calibration that fits all, and having choices is very important to me as it should be for you. We encourage you to research and look at different calibrations and make an informed decision based on your preferences / needs and what really is best for you.. Try them out and leave happy with the best tune for your application.

Kreg and Dave at KDMax have made a very solid offering and I support them in what they do. I truly believe that we can compete as friends, thus driving continued development and refinements for the 3GT.

Justin and I are so appreciative of those giving OTT a try and will continue to support the 3GT community as well as the other calibrators offering tunes for the Tacoma.

So - If you have a 3GT / 2GT / Tundra or T4R, make sure to place OTT on your list of calibrations to try. Also make sure you check out the KDMax tune as well.. One thing I can say, is that the end user can't lose with the offerings on the market today.

    Kind regards,

    John at OTT

It seems like the Tacoma tuning business/competition is growing fast. Many new tunes have been released recently.

Dave, me and The KDMax Tuning Group have a safe, efficient, well tested tune. We have many, many happy customers with lots of positive feedback and reviews.
Our customer service before and after the tune is top notch.

I have nothing bad to say about any competition. Everyone out there is just trying to make the 3rd Gen Tacoma a fun truck to drive! I know that everyone can agree that it needs help!

I just got the OTT this Saturday. I have nothing to compare it to other than my truck as stock. But I can say I highly recommend it. Nothing against any other tunes as I’ve never used them. The truck feels MUCH better on the low end, but yet still pulls and maintains highway speed easily. Definitely check it out.

I have the KDMax and this would be my primary complaint, anything in 1st and 2nd gear when you need a light touch on the throttle is always a hot mess; the truck lurches forward and I am barely touching the gas pedal. There is no way to give light pressure on the pedal and have it be smooth. Once under way its a lot better than stock and freeway is really nice. But for me in town just trying to get out of my 4 speed bump complex is a nightmare.

That was one of my biggest complaints with the linear throttle tunes I have personally driven (my own included). But we definitely made sure driving at slow speeds over a bumpy section of a road or in a parking lot were much more controllable in our M+W Nexus tune. No jerking you, your wife, or your dog around unless you intend to.

The only tunes available for the 2.7L Tacoma are the 2016 and 2017. We have a KDMax tune for them. We also have 4Runner tunes up to 2019 and 2nd gen Tacoma V6 tunes.

Ideally you want a tune that's been tested by thousands of people for reliabililty. OVTune 2.0 is the most proven but doesn't offer enough improvement over the 2020+ factory tune to be worthwhile. That leaves KDMax as the second most tested tune (from what I can see).

I've been running KDMax 6.0 and am happy with it. The throttle tip-in works well with my 35s on stock gearing. I also prefer the raised redline and added top-end power - makes driving the truck more fun. I have an iDrive/EVC/Ultimate9 throttle controller installed a year before the tune that I now use in eco mode to make the throttle less touchy for technical rock crawling.

As far as I know none of the tunes are active when adaptive cruise control is active, so I still get frequent gear hunting with the stock shift logic on long highway drives, but that may not apply to you.
Digressive shock valving means speed bumps get smoother if you go fast over them :gossip:

KDMax 6.0 was a great addition. When I had just the lift done it made the truck drive significantly better and at the time I did opt for the sport throttle. Since I did the initial tune I added an RSI cap, sliders, skids, etc. The extra weight definitely impacted performance but I cringe at where it would have been stock. I have since regeared to 5.29. With the 5.29 gears the sport throttle was not comfortable. Truck jumped too much just starting from a stop.

I met up with @TWTaco and got the KDMax Pro upgrade with the 5.29 settings and the normal throttle. Truck drives perfect now, easy off the line and still has get up and go.

That being said I have ZERO experience with the OTT tune but I can give a big thumbs up for the KDMax Pro.

Tunes are very much still in effect while in adaptive cruise control. The only thing we don't have access to are dedicated shift points.
