I've been testing tunes for over 2 yrs my Tacoma is over 5400 lbs on 315/75/16 stock gears . Vf tune myself. Your right on not every tune is met for everyone. Kdmax pro+XT is a good tune but mpgs were not as good as Ott's newest tune . Ott has a different power curve vs kdmax. Again your as stock as you can get . I can see why you need lite throttle. With mine being so heavy I have medium / spicy ect . With all my gear I'm well over 6k lbs .

I'm on Med/Mild, OTT/8.0 sauce on a "stock platform Sport". I definitely noticed improved MPGs (comparing 1/4 tank refills).

The closest thing to city driving I do is Highway 1 southbound to Delaware Beaches during the summer months. It gets backed up to a point where it's stop/go traffic.

The RPMs can be all over the place if my pedal control gets irritated with drivers cutting my safety distance I keep from the driver in front of me.

Other than that, I am happy with the OTT 8.0 improvements over 7.0. I've yet to use ECT for additional power. It's all good!

I had to look at your model TRD...because I thought he was talking to you.

I suspect he saw the mention of stock platform "Sport" (which is what I drive).

@JustDSM was referring to a new variant/option for OTT. When ECT is pressed, they have developed a sport shift mode combined with throttle changes. It will ring the gears out a little more, downshift/upshift targeted at staying in peak power/TQ and is a ton of fun to drive. It IS NOT for mpg’s and IS NOT for those that want to bog along in 6th gear, it IS for partying.

I've had so many tunes on my '21 and none of them really did it for me until I got the Overlander from YotaTune. This truck finally drives like it should.

The Toyota engineers that built this ECU were sniffing paint or something because it is complete trash

At this point, they're probably geniuses. They met the requirements/goals they were given WRT EPA considerations and the aftermarket takes care of fixing their screw ups while they benefit from having put in maybe minimal effort to have achieved the aforementioned goals, and the Tacoma keeps selling nonetheless. Lol

So I put about over 3000k mi on Ott's most up to date tune and I got past the honeymoon phase . It definitely has good low end trq . Good mpgs. On my commute I started pushing the tune harder everyday. Harder accelerations and higher speeds and my likeness started to dwindle. Don't get me wrong if I was in Moab on trails I definitely would choose this tune for trailing . Now I jumped back over to kdmax and flashed this time their kdmax pro xt. For my commute it was a personal preference . For whatever reason the kdmax pro xt ran really great on my commute. Shifting was perfect "for my commute" and the trq was in the right rpms . Mpgs were in the sweet spot of 19 to 20 mpg. Remind you I run premium, I'm an automatic with stock gearing, truck weight 5400+ lbs , and rolling on 315/75/16. There tends to be a phase of wowness in these tunes till you are accustomed to the tune.

There's absolutely a honeymoon phase which is why the most valuable reviews for any tune are those given after at minimum a few hundred miles when they'll have done most of their "settling", run a tank of fuel through it, and encountered more normal scenarios that are common in daily driving.

Too often, too many people floor it down their street and then immediately park the truck and rush to post a review that honestly means nothing. For any of the tune options.

Yeah you really need to put a few thousand miles on a tune to really see if it's gonna work out . That's where I always find myself month or so down the road . I drive over a 100 miles a day regardless so I rack up miles quick on trying tunes

Very fair and responsible comments for sure! Every driver and build is going to have varied expectations and needs. Tunes ahve evolved so much in the last 12+months that at this point and they have really make the trucks better than I ever expected!

Being a remote worker I don't get many hwy miles, but this past Sat I was all across Virginia for a good 8 hrs of total driving and I was impressed with KDMAX Pro+XT on all the rolling hills and merge needs. It's just pulls better as you say for my driving style when any prior release. Being mostly stock with a slight lift and 265s I come in much lighter than you but running 87 I was still 20+ at the 70 MPH clip. Both tunes out there being "competitive" with each other with each rev I am sure we will continue to see occasional stair stepping. What's great is anyone on KDMAX Pro and rest assured that the efforts to improve are there and show....and that competition in present for folks looking. If I were to sum up with KDMAX Pro+XT is after being on all the prior releases is that it's a rollup of all the good and then a bit more on top. I can't wait to see what's next....

How would you compare the Kdmax Pro vs the Kdmax Pro xt? I have the Kdmax pro in my 16 off-road and it feels light, peppy, super responsive throttle and quick for what it is.
