The tune has to reduce wear on the transmission by reducing the number of downshifts substantially, IMO. Congrats on the new truck.

Hello, I wanted to post a review of the KDCruiser 4.0 tune and the new KDMax Pro+ tune I was able to load last night with the assistance of @PapaRee, whose customer service is out of this world.

TLDR…had my truck tuned since Mat’s 1.01b version and have had about 8-10 different tunes on the truck. I started tuning my truck in hopes to keep it and the tunes are the reason I still have it today. I have 81k miles and no issues thus far. I loaded KDMax Pro+ Sport version, this is a great tune and the feels like a new truck.

I was very close to trading my truck in less than a year of having it back in 2017 due to the AT transmission issues that everyone is aware of. I worked in the field for large shipping company and my truck was my pseudo office and I was putting about 15,000-18,000 miles a year on it…until COVID. I liked Mat’s tunes and it made the truck a better drive with the larger tires I had (275 70 17 KO2) but I always had ECT button on. My favorite tune was 1.03 due to the aggressive throttle response and holding gears longer.

I tried the KDCruiser 4.0 tune about 2 years ago and this was by far my favorite tune due to the performance factor and the truck drove great. I no longer needed ECT button on as this was a true performance tune, which was nice change. In 2018 I installed Bilstein 6112 w/ Springs lift on the front with Bilstein 5160 in the rear to make the truck level, this was one of the best mods I did with the truck and rode so much better. I now have Nitro Ridge Grappler 285 70 17 tires and love the look and ride even more.

I liked the KDCuiser 4.0 tune with the aggressive throttle but wanted to try the new KDMax Pro tune due to the raving reviews. I put 50 miles on the truck between last night and this morning and this tune is the absolute tits! I had an issue loading the tune last night where the truck did not start but @PapaRee was very responsive and actually called me and we got the truck running with the new tune loaded. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated that, thank you again!

The first thing I noticed is the throttle is very smooth and less hurky-jerky (I think that’s a technical term) from a stop. The performance is better and my truck is running great. I also like the fact the tune is octane learning because I live in Central Florida where 93 octane is available everywhere. 93 is the only gas I’ve put in the truck since new but when travelling to other states that is not always available. In summary, I cannot recommend this tune enough and a shout out again to @PapaRee for the awesome customer service.

    TGIF and Cheers!

This is the thing I hate most about the 4.0 tune I'm running, but I just don't really want to pay for a new tune every time one comes out. I'm trying to just watch from a distance and wait until the community finds that one final version that seems to meet all expectations.

That’s a losing proposition. So many people are happy with their tune until a better one comes out.

I do think we’re sort of starting to plateau on improvements however. There are several high quality tunes from different vendors out right now.

This is exactly what I meant; watch from a distance, enjoy my 4.0 tune and try to live with the quirks for a while until a large chunk of the community settles in a particular rendition of these tunes for more than 1 or 2 years. I understand each tune is subjective, and the very best tune is something more personalized to my truck, but I feel like if the community plateaus on the + tune, and the only other things popping out are more specialized custom tunes, I'll go for it at that time. I just don't want to know that I spent money for the 4.0, spend more money for the + tune, and not be as happy with it with the next best thing comes out, if that makes sense. I'm positive any newer tune will be an improvement over the 4.0, but I also just don't want to have $1k+ in tunes playing trial and error :turtleride:

Just FYI, if you bought tune files from us in the past and want to update to the Pro or Pro+, it is $75.
New/first time customers pay $300 for the tunepacks.

Were there any other changes between Pro and Pro+ besides holding gears a little longer (which we get just by pressing the ECT button)? I would appreciate this being part of the normal tune but am reticent to take the time and spend the $ if that's the only improvement.

Yes, just the shift points. You are good on the Pro as long as you are happy. There is no charge to go from Pro to the Pro+. Your time is the only cost, and I know that time is very valuable!
