I’ve been interested in becoming a tuner and was hoping someone could direct me to where I can learn about what it takes to get started. There are none in the Silicon Valley/Bay Area where I live and there’s no shortage of Tacos here.

I’m also interested in learning how to flash and perhaps be of service in SoCal. I’m a software engineer and this is up my alley but have A LOT of questions.

Dave and Quoc are both in SoCal, so we have that area covered.

If you want to do it yourself
Go to @tonered's thread for ECU TSB updates to get up to date first.
ECU TSB Update | Tacoma World

Then go to www.vftuner.com and buy the $349 Software with cable.
Then, PM me (@PapaRee) to buy the tune-pack.

@PapaRee @TWTaco @Tacomod Thanks again so much for your input on the Regular Aggressive Tune. I had my upgrade done a couple days ago from SLT to Reg, and the experience has been awesome. You guys were dead on. The Reg tune is not wild at all, it is just a little bit more responsive. It did not take me too long to adjust and learn the pedal, wonder if it is because I learned the SLT pedal and the Reg is easy to adapt to. At first I was worried that driving around in tight underground garages would not be fun, but it turns out to be very controllable, almost the same as SLT. I highly recommend the Regular Aggressive tune if folks are looking to upgrade, especially if you have a less agressive tune and have learned how to drive it.

I also noticed that my gas mileage seems to have improved a bit. When I upgraded from stock to 33 MTs, my MPG took a hit on SLT. Seems like it has improved. Maybe because I am not pressing down on the pedal as much? All I know is that the truck seems to be more responsive and the MPG is a little better.

Also FYI - I am running the reg tune, and I fill up with Premium and Mid (tradeoff). Lol depends on gas prices and trying it keep the Octane around 90 since the reg tune only learns to 90.

    Great tune guys, thanks again!

I have ran OV and the latest KDMAX.
I just couldn't get used to the tip in on KD. California traffic requires a delicate touch. Also one thing I didn't like about KD was you have to Mash the pedal way down to get it to down shift. Currently running OV again. I wish I could blend the two tunes together and that would be close to perfect.

I just recently upgraded from SLT to Reg and love it. I also run the same size tires and would vote Reg. Unless there is something about towing that I don't know about.

Problem child here. Strangely, if anything I would say that my pedal got a little twitchier over the last 5k miles. Off the line starts still take a bit of finesse to not be jerky. I’m on SLT. One above wife-tip, right?

04A61 here but I recently went up to LT from SLT and it seems smoother to me. Only time I have to give it a lot of pedal to downshift is at 60mph and higher. I also get a slight bumpy road feel before it finally downshifts too. Other than that runs good

Mine rarely stays in 6th… but I’m also cruising Texas interstates at 80+. But it shifts in and out of TC lock and down to 5th really smoothly so I have no complaints there.

On super flat highway it’ll hold 6th at 80 plus, but wind or overpasses will unlock the TC or downshift respectively. Totally happy with highway performance.

Can I get the regular tune, and then have ECT as LT?

I got my Tacoma tunes this evening and definitely noticed a difference but… I was expecting more hmmmph off the line, tbh. I’m on reg running 91 on 33+. Shifting is much nicer however unsure if it’s the tune or the tsb update applied prior to the tune. Overall first impressions. I love it. @TWTaco I'll reach out mid next week. Thank you, you’ve given my Tacoma the mojo it very much needed.
