I want to give a big thanks to Chris @wahoobie for tuning my truck 3 weeks ago! It was great to meet you and I really appreciate you taking the time to answer any questions or concerns I had.
What a difference in performance and drivability! So happy i didn't miss the opportunity to get this done while you were in the area! I will be recommending this tune to anyone I talk to that has a 3rd gen Tacoma!

I was irritated with the automatic shifting from day one. The truck seemed to have good power in the top of the power band but the transmission always wanted to shift before then. Had to step on the pedal, wait, then the truck would start pulling. Small uphill grades were the worst. Push pedal to maintain speed, truck downshifts but would upshift before getting to flat ground. Then it would repeat this process over and over before reaching the top. Very annoying. Those days are thankfully behind me! :)

Also, want to thank Kreg and David for providing the software to be able to make this possible!

    New Tune Announcement!
The KDMax Tuning Group (45 Pro Tuners) has been working on and testing a NEW tune!!

    KDMax-Pro

    - More low end torque.
    - Improved gas mileage. Best MPGs so far! (As always, NOT Guaranteed.)
    - Octane learning from 85-95 octane--no more Regular and Premium versions.
    - Improved/smoother shifting.
    - Works with CAI's, Custom Exhausts, and Dumptubes with no weird affects.
    - 4Lo tested- smooth and strong at low speeds.
    - More user friendly throttle settings/names and just three choices:
    1. Sport throttle- Aggressive, linear (much like our Regular/aggressive now but optimized for less jerky low speed)
    2. Normal throttle- Used for Daily Driving but aggressive and linear (much like the old SLT but optimized and linear)
    3. Lite throttle- Like the Stock/WifeTip throttle but optimized to be linear and smooth
    4. Thoroughly tested by all year trucks.

Available for 2016-2022 Automatic and Manual Transmission Tacomas

    Pricing
    ---TunePacks/Files for DIYers---
    New customers- $300
Existing/past customers- $75 -Just request the new files on your old PM with us (@PapaRee or @TWTaco)

----Tuned by one of our Pro Tuners---
New customers- reach out to your Local KDMax Pro Tuner for pricing.
Existing/past customers- reach out to your Local KDMax Pro Tuner for pricing.

You do not have to update from the previous KDMax tune if you do not want to.
But anyone that does, We suggest a Reset ECU and Clear TCU for a fresh reset then flash the new tune and give it a full tank of gas to settle in.
It is not required to reset, but letting the computer learn your driving with the new tune would be beneficial.

If you currently have a custom KDMax tune and want to upgrade, send us a PM and give us a day or two to make the custom files.
    Thanks,
    Kreg and Dave

We did have a few early 2018's and weekend tunes done with the KDMax-Pro and everyone is HAPPY so far!!
    Feedback will be posted soon.

Plus our KDMax tune group have all been testing and monitoring with good results.
    It is a solid tune.

Kreg & Dave, I like that you’re tweaking and working to improve the tune and if I in any way thought that KDM6 (slightly customized for me) could be any better, I’d upgrade to the Pro. I am looking forward to see the feedback on this new tune though.

Very excited to hear how it performs once it hits the masses. That improved low end response and sensitivity is of particular interest. Does this change how the truck behaves while the engine is still cold? Maybe it's just me because OP tweaked some of the shift points, or maybe just 04A61 problem childs, but I know the truck wants to rev higher and hold gears longer until it's nice and cozy. Example: won't upshift to 3rd until above 21mph but will happily do so at my preferred sweet spot of 15mph if you drive (or let it sit) for a few minutes.

Maybe this is yet another reason to get a remote start kit I've been wanting.

I think that just may be how Tacomas are. My 2017 is the same way. Drives weird until warmed up.

I find the truck has always ran better after it warms up a little and the fluids are well circulated.
Living down south helps, I don't have to wait too long.

You guys are on to something with this new tune. I’m on the normal throttle and I can say that the low end torque and acceleration is phenomenal. The RPMS match the pedal damn near 1:1. Haven’t given it much hwy time yet. But my drive to work is all highway. So I’ll have a good full review tomorrow!

Ok the secret is out, so… I opted for the PRO tuning this weekend and still evaluating. Since I do not have anything other to compare, ie. 6.0 tune, I have to give it another few days, few tanks of premium and go from there. This far, I’m loving it but still left wanting a little more hmmph.

I’d be interested in hearing how “Pro” stacks up against “6/7”, specifically from customers who have upgraded.

Well, we have all our KDMax Tuning guys on it, so maybe we can get some reviews posted. All the feedback has been positive throughout the testing. Even on the manual trucks and the “problem child” 2018’s.

    ‘21 Tacoma TRD Off Road
KDMax Pro tune (new in November ‘21)
Got the KDMax Pro tune today on my ‘21 Off Road. No learning time yet, of course, but right off the bat I’m getting almost tire-chirping launches instead of that old sense of waiting and waiting for some power to kick in. As it increases speed, the feeling of power increase with this tune kind of settles down to its normal output, but in the early acceleration, from start or from low speed, it’s a very nice improvement. Like a big torque boost… although I know it’s just tranny and throttle response, it feels like more actual power. No more dead pedal travel either, I got the highest throttle sensitivity and its marvelous.

I can’t measure mileage yet, but the day before, I took a road trip and kept the cruise at 65 and under, and I gassed up and measured highway mileage below 23. The :60 sec bars on the Home Screen agreed with my pump and count. Today I went down the highway and watched those bars and they were a bit higher — but at 70 cruise instead of sub 65. And the truck hasn’t learned anything about me yet. I think the mileage improvement will be very good, and since this 3.5 is a heavy drinker, that will be welcome.

first day, but already a fan. If there’s anything to add, I’ll write more.

does this tune account for changing between reg and premium?

Thanks for the feedback Dave. Yes it is octane learning 87 to 93. Look forward to hearing more feedback after you get some miles on the tune.

I agree, except I have another tune from a different group/LLC and it didn't have nearly as stark of a difference between "whoa Nelly!" and "nice and smooth now, y'all".

This is true, and being in NM will help. Though it has been chilly the past few weeks. I just hate waking up any earlier than I have to so I get in and go. My commute being a handful of stop signs and all 25mph or below means I don't get enough time to really get her going. First world, on base living problems.
