I tuned him, he went Normal. Truck is stock with no added weight or mods. He tested Sport, with the snow we get here in Northern UT some of the more aggressive throttles can be a little much for stock trucks.

Shout out to @cemented!! Stoked I was able to catch him while he was visiting to tune my truck. Didn’t think I was going to be able to tune my truck anytime soon. Night and day difference coming from stock and a pedal commander. Looking forward to driving to truck a lot more and to see how it will perform off-road. Appreciate you taking the time and providing the service for me.

    Oh man…
So I was wrong, gf got my tune done in Manchester NH. Not sure if the dude who tuned it is on here but a HUGE thank you! And to you gods of Tacoma tuning…
    :101010:  :muscleflexing:

Got to drive it yesterday, definitely a big improvement! It’s incredible how much more responsive it is. It’s a blast to drive again. Saturday starts a 7,000 mile trip, can’t wait to see how it handles the big interstate grades

I have a stock 2021 off road and want to upgrade to the Pro. Any recommendations for which level I should get? Normal or sport? It’s a daily driver and most driving is city miles. Which will be best on MPG?

MPG's will be the same. I would choose Normal for City/daily driving. The throttle will still be linear and better/more than stock.

If you really want to see the difference between the 2, ask the tuner to let you test drive both.

Try both files. You’ll quickly determine which one is right for you. I have the normal throttle. With normal, I find no need to learn new behaviour to keep from snapping my neck from a standing stop. :)

Upgraded to Pro from the a previous SLT version of KDMax in my 2018 AT.

While the previous version was better than stock it was still a bit jerky at low speeds/from a stop.

Now running Pro with the normal throttle and everything is smooth. No more sneaking up on the throttle from a stop to keep it from getting comments from the boss (aka wife). It is great! This is the best version yet! I highly recommend it if you had some throttle issues on previous versions.

I haven't been traveling with work as much recently so haven't run a full tank through it but first impressions are definitely positive.

To the guys who have gone the DIY route:

Lets say I really want this on my truck but I want to do it myself, for future upgrades or even to back it out whenever, I'd rather have that flexibility. I'd need to buy the Vftuner bundle for $349, then the tunepack from @PapaRee and @TWTaco for $300 for the latest KDMax-Pro, and a Windows laptop. And for each new tune that comes out it would cost me $75.

Do I have that right? I've not tuned a truck before, but I used to tune my Ducati via a Power Commander back in the day, the process sounds pretty similar, so I'm guessing I can handle it.

Is there any chance I brick my ECU while doing this?

    Thanks

    Sounds right!
There is always a chance to brick your ECU, but the software has gotten better and better, so the chance is very, very small.
There is also ways to recover the ECU now if there is a brick. Things have gotten a lot better.

I did mine and I've never tuned a vehicle before. Maybe I was lucky, but was easy and successful. Just pay attention to your battery voltage. Mine was pretty low (12.2v), even with a battery tender on it. So I drove my truck into town and back, pulled it into the garage then put a real battery charger on it (2 amp slow charge) and brought it to a steady 13.?v. I was able to read all of this in VFTuner. The dash readout beeped and flashed a bunch of error codes when flashing the ECU but had no issues afterwards. First thing I noticed was my truck idled smoother than with the stock ECU settings (have no idea what that's about but it did...). I'm looking forward to checking out the features of VFTuner and TechStream software accessible with the OBII dongle supplied with VFTuner.
