There is a patch that we can setup and correct the fueling on this hardware. This will definitely help with mpgs. But supporting documentation is not easy to follow.

Good to know. I had thought that the tune was set up specifically for a given octane level based on stuff I've read in the past. Thanks.

    Attention Sacramento and Fresno areas!!
I’m planning to host a tune event in each area on a date TBD. I have a few customers in each already interested and need more trucks to make the trip worthwhile.
Please PM me @KH86 or text me @ 408-533-2337 to get added to the list!
    Thank you

Yes sir, we used to have Regular and Premium specific tunes, but since November 2021 (KDMax-Pro release), we have Octane learning tunes. You can run whichever gas you want to.

OK, so I think I'm over the hump and ready to do this. I live in eastern MA, just south of Nashua, NH. Page 1 of this thread lists Sean aka @Toy_taco_trd as the guy for MA and NH... is this still the case, and if so, how can I get a hold of him? Thanks.

It is crazy how "tuned" all modern vehicles are to very specific parameters from the factory. I’ve read several reports of people getting poor mileage etc with exhaust upgrades with factory tunes.

yeah, that’s the thing. With these new “modern” vehicles I feel like you can’t modify much of anything without risking some sort of fall out.

It's so specific to meet the best possible fuel mileage in perfect scenario tests. Trannies are "more efficient" now and thus the reason why ours sucks so much, lol. I'm just glad it's not a CVT - or, a shitty Subaru version of a CVT at least.

Hopefully not much longer for my gears then I can schedule a tune date. I actually got an average of 16 today after changing my oil and adding the baxter spin off mod. Was a good day with 90% of it spent in 2wd and a trip to ID. Going the other way towards Kalispell, MT... I get like 13-15 and that's avoiding downshifts as much as possible.

I wanted to give a shout out to @PapaRee on this tune, not to mention the TWtaco who helped on it & the tuners, but mostly Kreg, I've not dealt with the others. The tune is fantastic & tames the erratic shifting that Toyota gave these trucks, the power is more usable & predictable with it all too. Customer service is top notch, something that a lot of operations, big or small, are missing nowadays. Responses to messages here are quick & helpful, not just from PapaRee, but the tuners also. If you want to enjoy your truck, get this tune, remember, this won't turn your V6 into a V8, but it sure makes the power that is there smoother, more usable & accessible, overall just a pleasure to drive. Thanks again Kreg

For sure, but that's what makes you wonder why people without the resources of Toyota can put in some effort and make a better tune. I am getting about 12 mpg currently with winter fuel, short trips, my commute is about 6 miles with stop lights. Looking forward to testing out the tune in early February, currently on updated factory tune. I don't find it terrible, but not a fan of the transmission logic and if I can improve that and get some added fuel economy I'll be happy. Haven't even installed lift and am on factory tires, yikes. My 06 4Runner got about 13 on the same drive with a lift and heavy E range 33s.

My Spec-U exhaust actually calmed down the shifting a bit and increased mileage

That's good. Have read many that have installed less restrictive exhaust and end up losing several mpgs. Could be driving harder to hear the new exhaust, but some claim the reduced backpressure can effect other things (likely easily adjusted with know how and tuning capabilities if the trucks don't automatically learn to like the new exhaust).

I posted in the VF tuner forum also. But when would “calibrate TCU” ever be used? Haven’t paid much attention to that
