I got my truck tuned a few weeks ago and was experiencing the exact same thing. It improved very slightly over ~300miles of learning but the "dead pedal" feeling was still there on a slight incline where you would press the pedal farther and farther with no response,, and the truck would continue to lose speed until it finally shifted down to 4th.

I just got reflashed about an hour ago, and on the brief freeway drive we did it seemed to already feel a little better than it did after 300miles of learning the tune on the prior flash. I also had the lack of top end power, it seemed to not hit/pull as hard as stock tune when I would floor it to pass someone, and I think that has been resolved as well...it seems to pull a bit harder now.

Still early into the reflash but so far seems better, I'll give an update after I get more miles on it.

Was able to meet up with Derek this morning to get him reflashed. The reflash is working we went on a short test drive and we could feel it shifting better was pulling in 5th on inclines that caused a 4th gear downshift prior. He will be getting more miles in to let the tune learn and settle in.
Again we are not sure why it happens or what may cause this this dead pedal feel but a simple reflash has fixed it in the few times it has occurred.
If anyone ever has an issue please contact your tuner or contact myself @TWTaco or @PapaRee we will get you taken care of.

That follow-up customer service is reassuring. I am planning to get tuned Feb 5th in Chicagoland by NickJacq23 who I believe lives in Kentucky. How would that type of re-flash service apply for someone getting tuned by someone doing a "road trip" tuning meetup if issues were ot noticed right away? I scheduled my spot early in the morning to hopefully have time to test it before he leaves, but its not like I am going to be able to run two tanks of fuel through in a day...

Drive it. You'll know if it didn't take after 20 miles and it's really rare that it doesn't. I'm 250 trucks in and never had to do a reflash because of that.

Excellent, thank you both! Between the tune and my suspension upgrades sitting in my garage I'm going to back to driving a new Tacoma again lol.

You won’t be disappointed with the tune!
And if you do a thorough test drive, you will know if there is any reason to do a re-flash or to change the throttle settings. Our KDMAX tuning group will not let you down.

Good to know! Planning on normal throttle, I'm on the heavier side with a topper, roof racks on cab and cap and some EDC gear/tools in a bed box but only planning 265/75R16s when it's time. Normal sounds like it will give me some extra pep where I want it without being too much for my normal commuting driving. Don't want to be giving my kids whiplash on the way to wrestling practice...It's funny because we have a 2016 Sienna and one of the reasons I didn't mind knowing the 3.5 was in these trucks is because how well that thing is tuned from the factory. Granted lots of differences but the minivan has always been like a rocket with linear throttle on the interstate etc. I started to realize after I bought the Taco it has a rather odd powerband. I thought it was strange to have such a different feel in a very similar engine. Factory 3.5 in the taco is like a motocross bike powerband after 3500 but falls flat much below 3000 rpms where its been programmed to run from the factory. Just weird...

Is 91 non-ethanol good enough? I feel like mine runs better on that than the 93 with ethanol. Plus all that’s near me are Stewart’s which sells 91 non-ethanol. Thanks!

Mine does that pedal lag thing but not always when I step on it. I've driven on the tune for at least 2000 miles.

Yeah that would be best in my opinion . Our local pump only sells 87 non ethanol . My truck definitely loves the 92 ethanol. If I could I would get 92 non ethanol

I have run the pro for ~1k miles.
A few issues I seem to be experiencing: MPG down about 2 mpg and 6th gear seems to feel different. It seems to not feel as punchy as the xt file I was previously on. Not sure what changes have been made, but just some observations.

I am actually going to flash back to the xt file just so I can see if there is any difference in how it feels, drive, and mpg, just as soon as my laptop charges here in a few....

But, baring any thing I can detect, the pro file seems to be a VERY well tuned file.

The power is simply amazing off 2-4.... First is such a weird gear from Toyota, its hard to judge it right IMHO. But in 2-4th it feels absolutely great. Rev hang is still a thing, at least for me, so I do not ring it out past 5k much at all.

I drive in 5th around the city when cruising ans use 6th only for highway.

I have used 4th a little for my commute to work, only 7 miles, and I do like that as well to be honest.

I would be curious to see if the lite file offers a noticeable difference over the normal throttle for mostly city driving.

If anyone wants any specific details, let me know.

Just got KDMax installed yesterday by James Miracle in Marion OH. Man what a difference! I’ve had my Taco for only two and a half weeks, it’s a manual TRD Pro. I knew at some point I would do a tune on it, and had researched different options even before I got my truck. After driving it for a week or so, and experiencing the lazy engine feel, even on the manual is horrible! I knew I had to get it tuned sooner than later. Got in contact with James, and he went over how the tune worked. He just did the tune last night, it took no time. He’s a great guy too. After he was done, I pulled out of his driveway, and stepped on the gas, holy crap! This things a whole new truck! Linear acceleration, plenty of power. Hell I was lighting up the tires in 1st, and second! It’s amazing these trucks aren’t tuned like this from the factory. Toyota would sell a ton more trucks than they already do. On the drive home, I live about 1.5 hrs away, I drove it hard, it was very strong and smooth even getting up into the 80mph range still had great power. I’m so happy I didn’t wait to get this tune, and it was inexpensive. I would normally do something like this myself, as I have other cars I’ve tuned and done suspension brakes, bolt on I take, and exhaust work. But for the low cost and quick tune by James, I saved myself money and time. How can you beat that.

Just got tuned by Alex Yug who drove 3 hours help out some fellow Taco owners in Oklahoma City. Alex was very thorough and the process was seamless. The truck is definitely quicker and more responsive.
