    Vftuner used to sell the software only if you had bought someone’s cable. It was like $199 (cables are $160). But I would email him first and ask because I do not think he allows this anymore. It is not listed on the website anymore.
    Probably better to just pay $389 for the software + cable kit (about the same price anyway)

    Alright, just to confirm, because I've heard a few different things from a few different people: With the KDMax-Pro tune, what does the ECT mode give you over not having it enabled? Different shift points? Different air/fuel maps? Etc. I'd appreciate an official answer to clear it up once and for all.

    Send a note to zendesk (before you buy) with the serial number of the adaptor. Mat will verify if it’s good (one of his) or not. You need a verified adaptor to open the vFTuner software.

    ECT mode gives you higher shift points (holds gears longer) and a little more throttle. Same air/fuel maps. Good for towing/performance.

    Awesome! Thanks for clearing this up. When you say "a little more throttle," do you mean better throttle response, like the "sport" throttle option on the tune would get you?

    Yes. About 5% more throttle for ECT. Gears hold about 3-4mph longer.

    Is it based on MPH or RPM's ?
    I would like to think bringing the engine higher into the power band would be more adventitious (?)

    I've been thru all the ovtunes, had someone else tune me to kd6. Decided to get set backup to do my own tunes. This is hands down the number 1 tune. Even for us 6MTs. Pinky promise

    Well let me put it out there for you guys thinking about spending the money to get a tune. Between the obd port/cord, lap top, vftune stages ,PapaRee stages I am sure I am well over $1000. Also becoming a IT Engineer of my Tacoma to learn how to apply all the software. So for you new guys spending 3-4 hundred to get the very best tune out there and just meet a tuner on one day. I could only have wished! Seriously though if your going from stock to KDMAX-PRO you will be blown away. I have used tunes on all my previous trucks and from stock to KDMAX-PRO has made the biggest improvement. I do not work for or with PapaRee I have literally just PM him on this forum and he has taken care of me from day one and he always responds quickly which is awesome in todays shitty customer service world. The only reason I am writing this is because he deserves the complement of all the hard work he has done to build this tune. Thank you PapaRee!

    I'm in the same boat, ended up deciding to do it myself so I could have the flexibility of changing throttle settings, etc on my own and save an hour and a half drive to my nearest tuner each time I want a setting changed or want to upgrade when a newer version comes out. But yeah, I had to buy a laptop too, so all in is around $1000. VF Tuner is ordered, waiting for it to ship. At least in the future the only cost will be the $75 for each newer version. And the laptop was something we needed anyway, so this just forced me to go ahead and buy it instead of keep putting it off. Plus I'm looking forward to learning how to do it and seeing the inner workings of the truck.

    You won't be able to 'tweak' the KDMAX tune. It's locked to protect all the work (IP) they've done. You could load a different tune or tweak the original OVTune, but not this one.

    I'm not looking to tweak it, just want to be able to adjust the throttle settings (sport, normal, lite). My understanding is that you can also block certain CELs. I have one that pops up intermittently ever since I put in a URD y-pipe, so I'd like to be able to block that particular one.

    Awesome - thanks for the information and sorry for all of the question. Regardless of the questions, I'm a very happy customer.

    ...and I have another one! With the "normal" throttle tune, does ECT perform more like the "sport" version of the tune?

    I ask because I really like the way the truck drives in the ECT mode on the "normal" tune, and if it's similar, I'll probably opt to change to the "sport" version.
