showing your age and ignorance here its ok, let me teach you. Like ten years ago when your uncle Schmidt was reading you bedtime stories there were hundreds if not thousands of people tuning, Im almost 100% sure guys like we have here were learning and trading tunes for zero money. Could be wrong but Im not. OV tune is not remotely the first tune for this or any other vehicle. But yes I respect the entrepreneurial spirit. Guess inflation and all those expenses went up like 1000% in a decade. I respect the service aspect but the buy-in as a business is astronomical, said no one ever.

1200 to see dentist. A toothbrush is only a dollar could have saved you quite a bit. Just pulling your teeth amigo!

Finally, I understand business expenses, I employ a dozen people and am responsible for their welfares.

I will be trying the Ov tune cant wait

I’m not sure what you’re trying to get at with the $25-$400 thing… you’re not being clear of what you want and how much you’re paying. Are you trying to buy files in exchange for some beer money to do this yourself? Or do you actually want someone else to touch your truck?

OVTune charges $390 for their tune packs and $390 for the software and cable… so for a cool $800 you could DIY with OVTune 2.0? Which hasn’t been updated in years.

You have obviously read through the reviews, and pages on this thread. all of us kdmax tuners try to benefit our customers as best we can. We want to make our clientele happy. We do not make 400 bucks off you as said previously, we have to pay out. Try the tune, if your not satisfied im sure the tuner would make it right. Our main goal is to help our customers enjoy driving their tacomas.

I didn’t want to raise my prices from a few months ago, the largest driver was the restructuring of vftuner which completely changed the whole thing

Not too sure that Gen II Tacoma owners were all that disappointed in the daily driving of their trucks 10 years ago.
Maybe those "hundreds if not thousands" of people trying to fix what wasn't broke were probably trading ideas for a market that didn't exist and earned what it was worth.

My age and ignorance ? :jerkoff:
    Of course You're not wrong....

We tune 2nd Gens too :) I use HPTuners because it has full transmission maps that are functional vs. vftuner which is catching up.

You're just the guy I wanted to talk to.
Are you one of the" hundreds if not thousands" who were learning and trading Tacoma tunes for zero money ten years ago ?

Thanks for the tune Dave @TWTaco! Great meeting you and seeing your truck. This tune is definitely a must-have for every 3rd-gen: the truck is comfortable at highway speeds now (no gear hunting), the throttle input actually corresponds to engine speed in a reasonable way, and I got 2.5 extra MPG on my way home. Thanks for making my Tacoma great again!

I can attest to the difference in performance. KDMax Pro made a HUGE difference in drivability at low speeds. I had @dutchcontractor install it about 4 months ago. My only disappointment is the loss of fuel economy no matter how much I baby the throttle. (I have the normal setting) Other than lower fuel economy, KDMax is great. At lower speeds power is readily available. At highway speeds, there is little change from stock.

Curious about tuning, and have a question for tuners. How do you ensure a tune isn’t running the engine too lean? Monitoring exhaust gas temps when you test out a new tune?

I monitor O2 sensor. In all reality, Toyota loves to run rich, lean hasn't been a problem for me. Been looking into adjusting the sensor to read values below 11.9:1 but it looks like the sensor is significantly less accurate the more you widen the sensor readings.

On the topic of the cost for the Pro tune do the event days that some of the tuners periodically conduct cost less than when the tuner comes to you individually?

Its all up to the tuner. Most times yes, but always make sure price is confirmed before the meet

Here is the typical state of afr during a normal commute(column p&q). IMO, AFR could be dialed a bit to a leaner side.
