    Far to much money spent.
Met up with Sean today to get the kdmax pro tune. Of course my stupid truck would not take the TSB update Sean tried 10 times to get it to take no luck. So no tune for me.

Just had an amazing KDMax Pro (Normal) tune to my truck this weekend from @Phich at Buc-ee's in Katy, TX. I was about to return the truck to the dealer because of the surging when taking off. I thought about those devices that plug into the throttle pedal. But I want something to last and have a better out come. Found this forum and had the KDMax Pro tuning done. The truck drives normally now. What a great difference. Like wow. As a new owner of a Tacoma (3rd gen) this is by far the very first mod you should be done to your truck. Specially if you want your truck to last. I would like to thank @PapaRee, @TWTaco and @Phich for making this happened. Great coding guys. It shows.

Pleasure meeting you and tuning your Truck, Chris! That normal throttle KD Pro will settle perfectly after the miles on your upcoming road trip. If the normal setting is a little too much throttle after driving for a few months, we'll drop you to lite when I come back in July. At your service

I finally got tuned! I should have done this sooner. @PapaRee & @TWTaco

Shoutout to @TacoManOne for being informative and clearly knowing what he is doing. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your vacation to help me out. I always enjoy meeting new people, especially when they are as nice as you.

As for the tune, it's still new to me. We did try the Pro+ tune at first, but it was definitely too much. I saw a pretty significant loss in MPG and it was clear the tune was designed for a much heavier truck than mine. So a re-tune to the Pro w/ normal throttle, a quick test run, and I knew right away it just felt propper. It felt like it should have been from the factory. Even with the bigger rims/tires/lift it just brought the truck to life. The first thing I noticed was my truck no longer has wonky shifting. After everything I have done, it was shifting terrible. Truth be told, I never thought it shifted properly stock, but with the mods it was really bad in the low end with stop and go stuff. It would shift into 3rd - or 4th and then immediately back into a lower gear because it was shifting too early. So now, it just goes. It doesn't linger on a gear too long, it shifts perfectly. There is enough power to get me off the line without having to put my foot in it. But the best thing is that it's doing it without burning gas. I had the tune done today and I've put about 200 miles on it so far. I saw a number after my trip home that I never thought I'd see again since lifting - 16! lol. I actually hit 16.3 on the ODO on the way home. Again, I am still learning and my drive home is not forgiving, but it's definitely up from the low/mid 15's (or worse). In town, that number went up even more. Around 17. That was a mostly 50mph drive through town but does go from 50-40-30-25 then back up again. I drove through town and back. I didn't hit any stop lights on the way back and that could easily be what I got 17 from. But on the drive home, 5th and 6th were actually used properly! If I went into 4th it was a big incline and I'm heavy footed, lol.

TBH, I don't expect a massive gain in MPG's here. The tune is clearly performing very well and any gains I get from it are appreciated, but not expected. I will drive it for a couple weeks and then post my results. By then, I should be through a couple tanks and about $800 worth of gas (/s).
But I just wanted to report my initial experience with the tune, and the tuner. It was great to meet you and I hope plenty more business comes your way. I know for sure that any discussions I have about my truck the first thing I am bringing up from now on is the tune ;)

Gears are still on order, because I think they will help the most with the mountains where I live, but the tune is phenomenal. Night and day difference, it's a new truck. Paired with gears I would LOVE to see an increase in MPG. I had given thought to canceling the order but I just know from the reviews of the 4.88's paired with this tune that it's the right thing for me. And it gives me another chance to bug @TacoManOne :fistbump:

You guys are awesome. I appreciate your hard work and dedication! Also, @TacoManOne is the one who took the time to ensure I had the right tune, I was just along for the ride ;)

And I definitely did not get pulled over in town for going 40 in a 25 when I was testing the pro+.... that definitely never happened...

    Ok... It did.

And the cop could tell I was pretty embarrassed and I was just honest with him about why. I knew I was going 37 when I looked down and I passed him at about 35, but he clocked me at 39 driving by (lift, bigger tires etc). I just tried to act natural and hoped I was camo with the street. MGM is kinda close... He was a good guy, a local guy and I've met him before (off duty) and some of his buddies on the local PD during cook outs with a local restaurant and other events in town (it's a smallish town). So I got lucky. I don't think he remembered me because it's been a couple years since I lived there, but he was still pretty awesome about it and actually seemed to believe my story. Even as I was leaving the normal throttle on the pro+ was kinda jumpy. I couldn't help but chuckle. I've only had one ticket ever, and it was all my fault. This would have been pretty embarrassing to get a ticket for. Also, nobody on the side street, not in a neighborhood or anything (no excuse)... I did give it too much and sure enough as soon as I look down to check it was too late. I have the greatest timing ever...

Also, no tint ticket lol. Win win. I saw him looking too. That one I would have bit the bullet on but it's probably not even worth it to them. So yea... that happened.

They are all diesel guys around here. If you mention "tune" the first thing they are going to ask about is a def delete.
Actually had that happen today when I met a customer for a private sale. I was like "no, it's a v6" but it turns out that guy also had a Tacoma, or at least, his wife did - once upon a time. So he understood

Apparently! Because this also happened: Ferro Concepts

help a noob; I received a VF tune a while back, and understand it to be "4.0". Is my tune old news at this point, and if so, what are the newer options/what improved? Super vague question I know, but not entirely sure that I'm happy with it. After a long while of having it, I'm starting to realize the throttle response is way too touchy at takeoff, and gears 1-3 at slow neighborhood speeds are way too finicky. Thinking of going back to stock, or hoping a newer tune addressed those issues possibly?

I am hoping to find someone who can help me with a tune on my 2017 DCSB TRD off road with 5.29s and 35s. KDMax Pro sounds like a good fit?

Located in Montrose CO, but willing to travel a few hours if required.

KDMax is definitely a good fit. With your set up possibly the Pro+.
