well a little bit of reading, and seems that maybe I have the Kruiser 4.0 tune. I'm not completely familiar with how the whole thing goes, but what does the process look like if I've already bought the 4.0 tune? Kinda confused by the whole buying credits thing, and don't know if that even still is a thing? I think at this point, I'm unhappy with the tune, and many tunes have come out since then. Anyone care to share some info?

It is the Pro tune with the shift points raised 3-4mph for heavy/overlander trucks that need to hold gears a little longer. Or any truck that wants to hold gears longer.

@PapaRee, I take it there is no such a thing as a Pro+ tune for those of us with three pedals under the dash. :)

Question on the Pro vs Pro+ for my specific setup. Besides modified gears = 5.29s.. The only constant-load added weight are the 35" tires (75lb each). I might add some hybrid style bumpers down the road, but not committed to that yet. Would you recommend the Pro+ for that, or stick with the Pro? I do most of my driving at 6-8k elevation in case that is a factor too. Trying to avoid adding substantial weight. Thanks

Nah, those shift points are controlled by you.

You will be fine either way. It is really a matter of preference. If you currently drive it and wish that it would hold gears just a little longer, you need the Pro+.
If you are not tuned yet, just do a test drive on both and decide. It is just another option that we wanted to have. I currently run it on my truck because I like holding gears a little longer, but some people do not. The option is available!

Made it in for a dyno run today...I think this might be the first independent dyno done, and probably the first on stock gearing.

First chart is intake/exhaust on stock tune vs intake/exhaust with KDMax Pro. Second chart is bone stock vs current setup showing AFR's...wanted AFR's for current setup stock vs KDMax but he printed the wrong one and I didn't realize it until I was home.

Gains were +10.4hp/+14.9ftlbs, both runs done on 91 octane...slightly disappointed as I was expecting a bit more with a performance exhaust and intake compared to their posted dyno showing gains of ~22hp/13ftlbs (on 33-34" tires) and a previous dyno claiming +37hp. But while the top end didn't have big gains, there were definitely some good low end gains where it needs it the most...unfortunate that with the stock tune I couldn't gearlock to get numbers lower in the RPM range.

I have done hundreds of dyno tunes over the years. I don’t want to offend you by saying this but the first graph is missing so much data it’s almost useless as a comparison. Second graph is a better comparison but also flawed unless the pulls were done on the same day or identical conditions. As much as they say they can normalize the data the engine still responds differently, heck even gas can cause some of it.

all that said appreciate you sharing your results and that’s a nice improvement over stock. Please share your exhaust and intake specs.

Thanks Derek, looks good, glad to see the gains with the tune.
Looks like stock runs very rich at high rpms. KDMax-Pro stays around 12, which is good.
Also it looks like you gained 38.79hp from bone stock to your current setup with KdMax-Pro+intake+exhaust. (267.86-229.07=38.79hp)
Very nice! Glad to see the low end gains too!

@758_Moto Same day test on the same Dyno? Curious how much atmospheric conditions might have changed? That increased low end power looks very nice!

Can you share the city or your approx elevation of the shop where you got on the Dyno?

I respectfully disagree. Same day back to back runs made sense 30 years ago with carbs and distributors but in the modern world of fuel injection and computerized everything, the ECU needs time to adjust and optimize any changes made, especially something as significant as flashing a tune...most of which take 1000+ miles to fully settle. That said, sure, of course there were slight variables as these tunes weren't available 2 years ago when my last run was done.

RunFile_14 (stock tune): April 2020, 10kmiles on the truck, ~65 degrees, just rained/slightly humid, almost new 31" tires/stock wheels
RunFile_18 (KDM tune): Mar 2022, 53kmiles on the truck, ~67 degrees, clear day/no humidity, almost bald 31" tires/stock wheels

Has the engine lost a negligible amount of power/performance in 40k miles? Maybe. Transmission fluid and engine oil were just changed at 50K miles. Both runs done on the same dyno by the same tech, with clean air filters and Chevron 91 octane gas. A little humidity and heavier tires on the stock tune were the only real variable, both of which would cause power loss for that run. Would have obviously been nice to do the runs closer together but it wasn't an option. That said, I would bet that if I flashed back to stock tune and put it back on the dyno there would be hardly any difference in numbers, if not an increase with lighter tires.

Running a modified URD exhaust and AFE Momentum GT intake. Last night I swapped the stock airbox back in with an HPS intake tube, I'll be back on the dyno Wednesday to see if that performs any better.

All runs were done at The Dyno Shop in Santee, CA...not much above sea level.

Funny side note...after my runs a random guy walked up to ask about my numbers. We talked a little and he mentioned OVtune...turns out he had worked with Mat developing tunes a while back and works at this place now doing custom tunes.

Be interesting to see if you actually gain some power back with the stock box. That is becoming the trend more and more. Appreciate you sharing

Thanks for sharing all that info. I'm excited to try a tune with 5.29 gears and heavy tires, but am expecting smaller incremental gains due to being at 6-8k feet for most driving these days. Hopefully the shift points will be a noticeable improvement on my 2017 auto trans with no TSB or ECU updates

I took the AFE off and put the stock intake on a few weeks ago...and the decrease in throttle response and low end/part throttle was significant enough that my truck felt like it went back to the stock tune. So far the HPS does not feel as powerful. I also swapped the stock filter out for an AFE drop in when I put the stock box back on yesterday. Really hoping the HPS ends up being better since I'm kind of stuck with it anyways since the AFE intake won't be compatible with a supercharger when the time comes.

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
I just got the pro "normal" 3 days ago, and it definitely is noticeable and all I felt I needed. Im on 35s and 5.29s also. I also saw an increase in MPG on my normal drive at 65mph for what its worth.

Good to hear this feedback. Did you try the sport throttle or just felt confident going the "normal" option?

Was leaning towards the "normal" option myself due to reports from a few others saying it was a bit too sensitive for low speed / crawling salutations. Throttle response is a bit subjective though, so more opinions are welcome before I get to test them out (probably in a urban setting)
