I took a little while to write a review to get a feel for the tune. I took it on a 1500 mile roadtrip and a bunch of tanks and all I can say is WOW! This is how the truck is supposed to feel.

Before tuning I was having some real problems with how the truck was shifting to the point where had been in the dealership a few times and was already on 04B04. I still wasn't happy and was verging on selling before coming across KDMax. I tuned it with LT and it was amazing even driving around town. I didn't try normal or sport throttle because LT felt right for my truck (mostly stock) and my driving. The throttle response was instant and didn't have that delay that I had never gotten used to, and coming to a stop I was no longer getting anxious about whether or not I'd hear a nasty clunk. The mountain roads are where I think the tune really shines though. I was actually able to hold a consistent speed on inclines without it shifting on me, and if I needed power it would shift gracefully and be there without dropping multiple gears and jolting.

My truck is finally a joy to drive so a huge thanks to @PapaRee and @TWTaco for taking the time to put this together.

Has anyone experienced occasional rough idling with KDMAX Pro? I'm running the 5.29 SLT tune and *sometimes* I get a rough idle that's very audible. Other times it's even more noticeable in reverse when my foot is off the break and it's reversing. But I'd say it only happens about 10% of the time. It feels so random. The gears are new, but they seem to be working just fine. At first I thought something was loose, but I think I'd be feeling/hearing it every time. Then I thought I had debris trapped between my skids and my exhaust, but I've cleaned it. Other thoughts are dirty MAF sensor or maybe bad winter gas? I've only noticed it the last 2 weeks since I did the tune, but I did some wheeling the same day (dirty snow, nothing that should be alarming).

It's obviously very possible it's not the tune, but with it being so intermittent it feels like it makes sense that it might be related to the air/fuel electronics (including ECU).

    Check your intake connections too.
I had a guy recently that came to my house for a tune and asked if it would "fix" his weird idling. We opened his hood and his intake tube was hanging off his air box.
After we connected it and tightened the clamp, all was smooth.
The tune should have smooth idle. We haven't had any problems with the idle with the tune.

Will do. Now that you mention it, another thing that happened in that time was my last ToyotaCare service. They definitely looked over the air box and filter so I'll double-check that in the morning and report back.

EDIT: Also, FWIW, I've been running your tunes for a while with zero issues like this. So if anything I was more concerned that maybe the computer got screwed up relearning things.

Are you referencing the "tick" that is the injector cleaning cycle?

Nah. I'm familiar with the tick sound of the cleaning cycle. This is much more audible and vibrates the whole truck (when it happens).

Best so far. It feels like the truck has warmed up to the tune and now I know how to drive with it. At first it was easy to put too much throttle in it and just felt different all around (not in a bad way). So thanks @TacoManOne again, and I agree, it takes a couple weeks to get used to. It doesn't even feel like the same truck. It does feel like some people think I am racing off the line though lol. But I'm not, it just gets there easier.

Also, it's been warmer so I am sure that has something to do with it too. And this was after an almost 40 mile drive that stock would have required A LOT of 4th gear and gear hunting in general. There is now only one or two spots where I go into 4th to avoid slowing too much but it really depends on traffic in front of me on the downward slope just before those spots.

Anyways, pretty happy here gentlemen! :hattip:

That's about the same as I'm getting on 33's with the manual which is really good. I think we're getting better than that though. Tire size calculator show's we're traveling 7 mi more on every 100mi traveled? If that's figured in wouldn't our mpg's be even better? Curious as to what your thoughts are on that?

FWIW, I had the rough idle that @codemancer refers to on occasion when I was running the 6.0. It would happen once in a while after some hard pulling then when I’d stop for a light it might idle rough. Didn’t think much about it because it happened so infrequently.

My good news is that I have never had any rough idle under any circumstances running Pro.

    FYI

The VFtuner server has been down tonight. Mat reported that there was an unexpected outage and they are working on it.

This explains why I can't flash my truck this morning. Came here looking for answers and to bitch about what a shitshow the VFTune software is since he tied it to your VIN and required internet access to flash. This sucks as I have to come in to work to get the internet connection needed.

It is back up this morning.
Make sure you are on the most up to date software.
    Should be 1.5.7.
The older versions won't connect to the server anymore, so updating is mandatory.

(The in software updater is not working. You have to use the download link)
